My Sh*& Don't Stink and Yours Doesn't Either. What's the best shot you've done and why?

Nice Jens!

Here's my fav commercial one'r I did a few years ago which ends in a crane step on and up. Think we did 35 takes mostly cause the bus timing never worked or the girl on the bus missed her cue to step off or the director wanted to fill the workday.

Sweet moves Doc. I love good handoffs.

Chaz, I put that up not because it's the greatest shots ever but just because it rocks. I actually have always liked the energy of the steadicam stuff though and the shot up and over the bar. Might not be the hardest thing you did but it works great. Pull something great out of the vault and post it up. Maybe the workshop Mr. Hanky?

Sweet oner Jens

Amazing work! Dave I love you for putting this thread up.

Here is one I did a few years ago. It got choped up by a crane shot but I thing they went for the 5th take we did.

They wanted me to move underneath the wings and where quite surprised that bending over with a steadicam is not the best choice for the shot. I spotted an grip cart some in the hangar and we hard mounted to it. Had a very good dolly grip who saved my day.

I feel certainly humbled by all of the wonderful shots in here - makes me a little embarrassed to post my own! However, in the spirit of sharing work, both from experienced and new operators, here are a few shots I did way back in January that I just got a copy of. It was a student thesis film, and I was brought in by my good friend, the DP on the film (and a fellow aspiring operator himself), to do Steadicam. I was only in for one day, the last day of shooting, and ended up shooting both the 2nd shot of the film, as well as the last 3 (which are all one sequence).

While there are some technical issues on the first one, namely the horizon as I move laterally, and also that the actor kept trying to run out of my frame as I'm backpedaling full-speed ( ), I love the way it starts and the way it ends. The push in to the monitor was especially fun, since I had to time it to a video cue coming off a laptop under the table. The second sequence (the finale of the film) feels amazing to me though. It's certainly not the trickiest shot I've ever done, but I think I really nailed it (though I'd be happy for criticism that says otherwise!).

Since the film is still in the festival circuit, the video is password protected. The password is "steadicam".

Sadly, since little else I've done since then is public yet, I can't post anything more recent. But I do love these shots!

Fabian,

That was totally rockin. Great stuff. Your operating was absolutely brilliant as it's just completely solid and there were a lot of really tight spaces there (or at least it seemed so). Out of curiosity, what were you unhappy about? A few moments where the transitions were a little sloppier than the others which were really tight, not because of operating but because of the subject matter. Intertested to hear your thoughts. Either way, great great video. Congrats.
