My Sh*& Don't Stink and Yours Doesn't Either. What's the best shot you've done and why?

Here's a piece I did some Steadicam work on recently, I was quite happy with it, there were no dollies knocking around so I was executing all the shots that had any tracking in them, we had a rickshaw for the super-low mode shot of the models feet etc to make the extreme tilt up to the dome a little easier, couple of ever so slightly off Horizons in there which bug me watching it back, nothing really ground-breaking in terms of moves, but came together quite nicely I think.

Had to watch it twice to start paying attention to the operating.

Mark,

Thanks for posting and the kind words. Nice stuff. I love the opening dude on the motorcycle. You've got nice control of the rig and some pretty long takes in there. Good stuff. One shot seems to have some vibration. Hopefully that was in the cam mount and not the rig but be careful of that. I've had that happen to me and it's such a bummer. Hope your knee gets better and thanks for sharing. If you ever need someone to cover you on the islands, I'm always game for a trip!

James,

Nice stuff. I know what you mean about horizon and it only bugs ya more the more times you watch it. I think I've pulled off maybe three shots in my career that I'm happy with, the rest....well.. Really nice stuff though. Slow mo is always funny to me because it can either make ya look great or make that horizon roll last forever. Your stuff looks great. Well done.

PASSWORD: steadicam

Raw footage of the single best shot I've been able to pull off in my career. On top of this, the crew who lit it and the actors who played in it all performed wonderfully.

6 different lighting schemes through 6 different rooms of a house, on a no budget independent student short. took us 5 hours to set up and shoot and it was worth every second.

I'll be honest, when production wrapped after the first session of shooting at 4am, the director and I both being a bit manic by this point, ended up watching this shot an embarrassing amount of times in a row. Think of a reasonable amount of times to have watched your own stuff and then like, double or triple that.

This is the reason why we do this job, I suppose. That feeling is a good feeling.

I love this job.

yes the vibration was from the red camera the lens mount wasn't tight after changing it to pl mounts from nikon

mounts we found out later

Im going to post something that I shot that I do believe stinks, it had so much potential but just ended up a bit meh.

Alexa, Cooke s4 25mm, my first and only Alexa Single take. Framed for 16:9 and cropped in post by the record label not being happy you could see the floor. It was either see the floor with the camera at her correct height or be slightly low and loose some floor. I dont think post animated the frame to fix headroom issues either, they just cropped straight over it. Label was on set too with an HDSDI link going to village. Painful.

Did the steadicam shots in this commercial. One of them is being time remapped trough different time periods in Norway - We go from 1950s -->1970s-->1990s-->2013. It's a pretty simple shot, but it had some timing and stuff to it. Think it turned out ok. Starts at 00:32.

And no, I didn't actually travel in time with my steadicam, although that would have been really cool.
