Premium Members Jay Kim Posted March 18, 2014 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 18, 2014 Randy, Very strange... mine is 1/4-20. Please try it again. If it doesn't fit, please let me know. I will contact Jason at BON. Also, BON will have a booth at NAB so you can visit their booth if you are visiting NAB this year. Premium Members Randy Nolen Posted March 29, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 29, 2014 For anyone who bought the Bon FM-073SCH 7'' Monitor. I had a hard time finding a Steadicam Monitor Bracket that was more stable than just mounting on the 1/4-20 thread hole so I went to Jerry Hill Steadicam Products had him make me one! Here are some Pics of the prototype. Jerry says he will make more if he gets enough orders. Premium Members Klaus Markl Posted April 6, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 6, 2014 I tried to activate the Auto Flip (for low mode). The monitor was still upright. H / V changed instantly including the on screen menu. Trying to fix that with mirror letters upside down drives you crazy. After I had switched off auto flip the monitor worked. I changed the camera battery and when the SDI signal came back to the monitor it was completely H/V reversed, incl. letters and numbers on the on screen menu. Once again I was trying to find the Auto Flip button (still was off) switched it on, monitor worked. I switched the camera off and on, when the signal came back again complete H/V reverse…. I changed to my backup monitor. I fixed it again at home and since that time it is working. I did not find a way to do the V-flip manually. I can assign that function to F2 and toggle through the options. The OSD states H flip, V flip, H/V flip but nothing flips. Everytime I dock the rig to my (spring loaded) Sachtler bracket the signal disappeares for a moment. Comes back right away but this is not inspiring confidence. The bon website gives you informations like „What is the advantages if I use an on-camera monitor?“ but no manuals or firmware updates. I´m not very happy with the monitor. Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted April 6, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 6, 2014 troublesome, how much did you guys pay for the monitor in the end?
Premium Members Klaus Markl Posted April 6, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 6, 2014 I don´t want to publish the price, Jens. If anyone has the right to do this it is Jay who organized the group buy. He did a great job and I´m still thankful for that. The problem is now with BON. Some of the monitors have mechanical issues. Not mine but the 2nd one that went to Stuttgart/Germany has some. There is a software/firmware problem. Firmware updates & manuals should be on the BON site. The accessories Bon sells with that monitor are not made for steadicam use. The sun hood is much to heavy & bulky. The DTAP Plug is so soft. No problem to insert it the wrong way. The screen protector should have an anti-reflex coating. The monitor does have some really nice features. The scalable picture in picture feature for instance. It is possible to have a small window with the program signal inserted into the picture. This could make a separate program monitor obsolete. But as long as the software is so weak, I don´t have the confidence to use it for live work.

Premium Members Tilman Holzhauer Posted April 6, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 6, 2014 I had one of those which had mechanical issues. They have been solved in the end (They took the monitor back, 2 times...to korea..and fixed it in the end) but I have to admit that it required a great amount of effort on my side. I hope they learned something...they wouldn't believe me in the beginning when I was pointing out flaws in their accessory design and when I told them I was unable to put a screw in any of the 1/4 20' screw holes because their were just badly drilled. They clearly had problems with quality control. But, as far as I know, the person that dealt with me has left the company (or was fired?). I quote: "Hi Tilman, I am pleased to hear that. I’ve just taken over your case from Jason, but I know that the mechanical issue of FM-073SCH was a big mess. Please be assured that the same problem will not be repeated when you purchase another monitor. Thanks and best regards, Martin KuSales Manager" I have not had the time but when I have tested its function I will write a little review here on the forum

But you´re right: My monitor should work. BON has a new Product Manager...
