Announcing the Teradek Bolt Pro 2000 Zero Delay Transmitter

Recommended Posts

Karsten, this is the second thread that Rebotnix has hijacked in order to advertise their products on the backs of other companies. It's not very courteous.

Alan,

i tried to be as political correct as i could be. That's why i even updated my signature with the new information that i am cooperating with Rebotnix before i wrote that post where i also pointed it out, just to be as honest as possible and to avoid any whispering about it. My post in this topic was no attempt to hijack the topic or to promote other products (what i clearly didn't do) i just recognized that there was something wrong with that demo video and that's what this post was all about. It was not courteous it was a logical reaction by what i realized and it was completely on-topic ...much more than your post above about hijacking.

I will shoot more concerts on 35mm digital next season without rehearsals. We figured out that it can be a good option to have the focus puller stationary at a monitor with eyecontant to the operator rather than running around with you (when shooting at f/2.8) in a crowded space. I usualy use the Bolt for it but it's range is critical. That's why i am interested in a no-latency device with SDI input and a longer range.

When somebody is noticing that there is a ciritcal misstake in an advertisement. It is absolutely ok to pinpoint that. I think everbody will agree with that. Mike has been nice working that out and they will do another video with a clearer measurement. So everything is just fine.

Karsten

Hi,   I wanted to share with the forum our success with the Bolt Pro 2000.   We have several reality shows running at any one time and own 5 boxx wireless systems. I took a big risk and purchased

Unfortunately, they do not since they use different chipsets. However, we are investigating ways to make them work together...

Hi Mike,

thanks for working that out. It was just strange to see a clearly wrong distance measurement in that demovideo. Never mind, i am looking forward to see the full 2000ft range. Will it downscale the quality with the distance, like other long range uncompressed systems do?

as i said, i realy love the Bolt. I basicly use it on every shoot, Steadicam or handheld/tripod operating, just to avoid cable clutter and save time when moving on. Seeing that without quality loss on longer ranges would be realy nice.

Karsten,

BP 2000 will perform much like the original Bolt. As I understand, the quality does not actually degrade even at its further distance, but when you begin to hit the maximum range, the video will begin to sputter and then eventually go out (as all transmitters do). Reconnect time, in my experience, has been about 1-2 seconds, though I am sure this slightly varies depending interference, obstacles, etc...

Hey Guys,

Mike are you realy sure about the distance measurement in your demo video?

at minute 2:30 the displayed turning point of the cyclist is about 2000 feet from the receivers position. But when you pay attention watching the moment of his turnround (2:14) it is clear that this point is far nearer to the receivers position than the position shown on the map.

Just to be 100% transparent. It is true that i am colaborating with Rebotnix which is a competitior to Teradek, but in this instance i am writing this as a user. Don't get me wrong. As an Steadicam Operator i am a very happy Bolt-User since the first hour it was released and i think it is a great product. So this post is no offence at all, i just want to inform you and fellow customers that there might be a misstake in your demovideo. (about the feature of transmiting range, which can be crucial to us) I don't know if it realy can transmit up to 2000 feet but in the video it cleary transmitted not much more than 1000 feet.

I did a quick overview here to put all information together. (please check in full resolution)

Here you can find the positions on google maps:

I tried to be as precise in my analysis as i can be. If i got something wrong please let me know.

Best regards,

Karsten

Hi Karsten,

As requested, here is another video clearly demonstrating the range of the Bolt Pro 2000. We also went further than 2000ft to show how the unit handles when it is pushed to its absolute limit. Reconnection times get slightly longer as you go over the maximum range, but are usually 1 to 3 seconds. You'll notice the video does not break up until 70ft past the maximum advertised limit with stock antennas.

Initial real world report on the Teradek 2000 after two days:

The venue was a live to tape show in a large Vegas Casino theater with lots of RF and more. Think Cirque but not Cirque. Not a scientific test but the unit never dropped or broke up the signal in two days. Never is pretty solid. The only other unit I've had that solid of a signal with in those spaces up to this time has been the Boxx unit.

We'll post photos of build / sled and a more complete review as time permits. We'll also do an open desert test and one on the Strip if we can after the first of the year. We'll test it as well in the ultimate torture chamber known as the CES Show in early January.

We didn't time that process Jens but we will when we do the other tests. Basically it was connected by the time moving from sled to receiver to check the signal similar to the Bolt Pro. Do you have some sort of target time you have to meet on it? I'm not being a smarty pants its not something that took noticeable time so it wasn't even a thought.

One job and venue does not make a solid test at all but these Vegas showrooms are notoriously harsh RF environments. Only time and other tests will tell but they'll be shipping very very soon and we can get a broader range of situations and opinions on it. Considering it's close to what a NTSC/PAL world Canatrans used to cost just for the transmitter it is indeed promising.

My understanding is there are several dozen units about to ship but I don't know when. Mike Gailing will let everyone know.

Hey Jens, you may need to look elsewhere if that's your goal; my iPhone and laptop barely connect to the cell and wifi networks in that short of a time. I don't know what the timing was, maybe it was that short but I'll test it for you and let you know. I'm not even sure cameras and monitors boot that quickly.

My priorities are having a robust signal in difficult locations, little to no latency, reasonable distance, portability, build quality and price. As long as it's connecting before I get to the RX I'm fine.

Thanks!

Robert

Hi Mike,

thank you for the new video, that's looking very promising!

Are there Demounits available in germany? When do you expect to ship in larger quantities?

Hey Karsten,

Thanks!

Demo units will be available very shortly in Europe. Larger quantities will be going out in January, though we did get a small batch in on Friday so I hope to get a few more out the door on Monday. We will be contacting those who signed up on our pre-order page (in order) next week.

Hi Mike,

This looks like a great little system, can you tell me, is the TX output power selectable?

How many separate units could you run in proximity to each other?

Thanks

Brad.
