I am looking at purchasing the marshall monitor linked below, but there are a few questions I have first. -Will having a 15:9 aspect ratio become an issue while shooting on full frame sensors or anything 1080 or above? -Is 800 nits enough in direct sunlight? -Is 45 ms fast enough to monitor off of while oping/can the human eye detect this delay? -I currently own 2 Lit-ion global media pro 14.8 volt 95 watt hour v mount bricks. It will letterbox the image but it is not an issue. Every project you will work on will have a different aspect ratio, all you have to do is use guide frames.-Is 800 nits enough in direct sunlight? Not really, It is usable, but it is not great. As soon as the sun comes out or you get a cloudy day, your monitor will be unreadable. it gets better above the 1000nits. I have a Marshall monitor (the older version of this one and I am not happy with the brightness.-Is 45 ms fast enough to monitor off of while oping/can the human eye detect this delay? You should power the monitor through the sled. A good monitor should be protected and those batteries should do.-Is there anything else about this monitor that may be inadequate while oping? Don't buy the digital level accessory from Marshall it is crap. -What is loop through output? It means you can input a signal and output it with no issue. the signal "loops through" the monitor. Not critical, but you should still get the loop through module on the monitor, not the other one. The other module is a dual output, no input which means you only have a HDMI input. Honestly, Marshall would not be my first choose for a monitor. Had a lot of issues with their gear. Not the best quality and it ends up failing at the worst moment. I got it because it was the cheapest 800nit HD monitor with both Hdmi and sdi inputs. - I don't know about the aspect ratio since I only tried it with my 5D2, but it has some settings for it so it shouldn't be a problem. - Regarding the 800nit brightness. I did a couple of tests in direct and indirect sunlight during the summer (I live in Greece, sunlight is brutal) and I am in the process in uploading my thoughts and pics on a blog I'm just starting these days. - I don't know about the 45ms delay you are referring to. Didn't do that much of a research. Are talking about a delay in the SDI module? I didn't notice any delay during the testing... - Voltage requirements (from marshall website) are 7-20 VDC, so I'm guessing the batts you have should be ok. I use a 3d party v-mount battery that outputs 14,8v when fully charged. - A small nuisance you may need to face is reflections on the screen. Initially I thought that would be a problem (judging from the on-line pics and videos I found) and that I would need to apply some kind of matte screen cover. Testing concluded that was not such a big deal after all. One other thing. The monitor CoG is not centered on its mounting hole. If you have a Pilot/Scout/Zephyr or, in general, a mounting system without side to side adjustment you will have trouble achiving dynamic balance. The effect may be negligible (haven't tried yet), but I myself don't like it. That's why I'm thinking of building a specific adjustable yoke. Overall I went to this mostly because I couldn't afford anything fancier at present. The other option (for me) was 1000 Euros more (the ikan/bon 7" 1100nits monitor). Although the brightness is a major issue, at this point in my career I can only afford so much. This monitor has all the capabilities I desire and will have to do. I am currently oping on a ProVid2 and desperately need to ditch the green screen cinder block on it. In the future I will be looking at Cinetronic for sure. However there are way off my budget at present... I have no experience with the green screen on the provid2. How does that one perform outdoors? I would gladly use anything that works out in the sun vs any modern HD LCD monitor that may give me trouble. I want to be able to frame.
