Premium Members Ari Gertler Posted February 6, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 6, 2004 It seems like two-three years since I tried the prototype. Any word? Has anyone seen the latest version. What is it like (Non Disclosure Agreement?). Just curious, Ari Gertler
Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted February 8, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 8, 2004 I still haven't seen the alien. So, I'm not sure if it really exists... :D

Premium Members Michael Stumpf Posted February 9, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 9, 2004 Just curious as to what the "Alien" is... Who are you, where you from? Â With that we could direct you as to who you could talk to to find out more. Â Even though I've seen and flown the prototype a couple years ago, I don't think anyone will describe it on an open forum as long as the maker/makers are still fighting copyrights and patents. Tom Schnaidt
I feel like I am from Mars. But really I am just an east coaster. I ve been in NY and in Baltimore now since 1999. Been an assistant since 92 and recently moved up to operating last year. Looking forward to learning the instrument that I cursed (always under my breath) as an assistant. But I guess I musta been pretty sheltered not knowing what the "alien" - is it likely I actually know what it is, just never heard it called that? Mitch Gross
You probably don't know what it is. If you look back in the archives you can find some info, including a link to the original patent application. Think Weaver-Stedman head meets Steadicam. Then keep thinking as it has evolved from this.

Premium Members Charles Papert Posted February 9, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 9, 2004 Gnespolo, it would be all too easy for people to see it that way, when a product is advertised as being unveiled at a specific place and time and it doesn't happen then, nor is there any more official word about it eight months later. I'm sure those people who travelled internationally to see it and were disappointed did not find that funny at all. I am privy to some of the reasons that this is going on, so I'm not going to comment on that situation, but I wouldn't blame anyone for having misgivings about the way this is all going down based on public information. Mitch Gross
Not to get into details, but while I respect Mr. Howard Smith and his MK-V gear, the Alien was in development long before his involvement and many operators on this forum had tested the prototype again before Mr. Smith's involvement. While I'm sure he has engineered a fine integration to his system, when the dust settles and the Alien finally debuts, don't assume that one must have a MK-V in order to be able to use it. The process continues ...
Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted February 9, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 9, 2004 Okay, I'm sure I'm getting myself into hot water, but so much for the official info... Â Don't confuse the 2 separate Rigs with each other... Â The ALIEN Design is the brain child of Lynn Nicholson, who also owns the US patent to all possible ways specially THE two ways to achieve High to Low mode in one continues move. Â The Revolution is the design of Howard Smith (Owner of MK-V)... the name says it all, it's the "Ring' Design... but he does not own the patents for the US, so you can't sell or buy it leagally here in the States... Â The ALIEN Revolution is a (or was a short lived ???) cooperation between the two compeating entities. It's more like a "legal" Revolution then an Alien. Â Â The Alien concept is (or better one of the concepts, not to talk about the "NO Level Issue") is the ability to go from High mode to Low mode in one continues move without the need to switch to Lowmode as we know it, with the pain of Lowmode brackets etc. Â The Alien concept is based on a whole new designed / new style Rig. The Alien Revolution is an add on that could be flown with any rig as long as the static/physics would allow it. The Revolution is again a whole new rig set up as we have already encountered parts of it in the form of the Nexus Battery system and the V2 Gimbal... Â Â As far as MK-V goes, this company was not yet able to establish it's self here in the US. I personally only know 2 people owning MK-V's. I never had the opportunity to use it in real life situations... At a show it will only tell you so much. Â My issue with MK-V is the lack of comunication, After the CineGear Shall we call that a "debackle" there was no explanation or official statement, and I mean directly from MK-V and not from affiliated sources or enthusiastic operators... Â As for the Alien, I had the fortune to try the prototype on several occasions and was very much impressed, but again trying it in a drive way or on a show is nothing like trying it on set under pressure... but I'm looking forward to it, if it ever happens... Â So... Yes, there are a couple of working Alien/AlienRevolution/Revolution Prototypes out there, but Prototypes only... so they do exist, just not for you to use... Â So much for the Alien rumors... Â (Still) Watch the Level and Fly Safe.

Premium Members Brad Grimmett Posted February 10, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 10, 2004 grimmett porque no me chupas la pija muerta sorete.... I'm sorry if you were offended by my previous statement, but I was merely stating the truth. If you want to keep sending me insulting messages and saying that "I don't mean shit to you dead" (whether in Spanish or English), that's fine, I just don't know what good it's doing anyone. The point I was trying to make before is that there is no reason to respond to every post unless you have something important and valid to say. I really enjoy this board and I look forward to reading the posts everyday and I'd hate to muddy it up worse than it already is by you and me slinging mud back and forth. Life is too short and this board is too good. I say we should all just take a deep breath and get back to our regularly scheduled programming. Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted February 14, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 14, 2004 don't worry all! as soon as Howard and Lynn finish spending many many thousands of $$$ and years in research and design, some small time knucklehead will make his own rip-off version, sell it for half price, and call it his own.
