Nah, couldn't be the money (put the smiley of your choice here). You hit that one square on the head Ron.

Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted May 23, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 23, 2007 Hi I'm a newbie thats very interested in the Alien.Lee Thompson. Hi Lee, welcome to the Forum from a fellow Las Vegan. Are you new to Vegas or a hidden treasure? It's a pretty small production community here and I don't think I've had the pleasure of meeting you, or maybe I'm just getting old and my memory is fading as fast as my hairline. This is off-topic so feel free to shoot me an email, PM or call. My cell is on my web site at LasVegasSteadicam.com

Lee Thompson
Thanks for the description Alec. So, the Alien is purely a prototype that we'll never see available? And everyone seems too wrapped up in having ago at each other? to answer my questions more specifically. I pretty well know everything about the MK-V product but nothing about the Alien. And do I have to be at a certain level to post anything? I'm a cameraman thats interested in a product. Lee Thompson.
Premium Members nealnorton Posted May 24, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2007 Here is a simple exercise you folks should try: Make a list of the names on this thread. Go to IMDB.com Run a search for all the names. (Make sure to check for other names in the same category, there are guys listed on films I worked every day as the A operator that I have never met) In my experience people with a long list of credits also have a great deal of integrity - it is a major part of why they work alot. As far as I can tell, "can do attitude" has resulted in zero credits. Maybe I should look under "non-US" based production no one has ever seen? Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted May 24, 2007 Moderators Report Share Posted May 24, 2007 Lee, A couple of things: "So, the Alien is purely a prototype that we'll never see available?" I never said that the Alien would "never" be released - just that it has not yet. "And do I have to be at a certain level to post anything? I'm a cameraman thats interested in a product." Certain level to post - no. Cameraman interested in a product - I'd make damn sure you know a lot/are a good Steadicam op before going down the road of any auto-leveling personal stabilizer. Premium Members Charles Papert Posted May 29, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 29, 2007 After much trepidation, I finally watched an episode of "On the Lot" last night (morbid curiousity, but nominally because I know one of the directors in competition through Instant Films). I was a little surprised to see in the behind-the-scenes of one of the films that an AR was in use, but I didn't recognize the operator immediately--anyone know who it was? Erik Mmm, there are two systems on this forum (one it appears two times but is the same owner that post it twice) and one is posted on SOA; I believe you're correct when you say that probably there aren't much MK-V on the market compared with other brands, but as well i believe that two or three systems for sale are not suspicious at all. Premium Members Andrew 'AJ' Johnson Posted October 4, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 4, 2007 Hi Guys, I've had my MK-V / AR system for almost 6 months now and its been unreal! Ive used it on a heap of jobs and its performed very well... Sure there are a couple of limitations with the system, but the advantages of the system over a normal rig far outweigh these minor limitations. For example; I have fixed the problem of looking straight up when in AR mode, by simply installing a small remote boot switch which can be operated on the post. The auto-levelling motors can now be turned on and off during the shot as desired, creating some very interesting looks. regards, -AJ Australia http://www.ajrevolution.com
