The ALIEN / Alien Revolution - All about...

don't worry all! as soon as Howard and Lynn finish spending many many thousands of $$$ and years in research and design, some small time knucklehead will make his own rip-off version, sell it for half price, and call it his own.

Do I detect the subtle, delicate fragrance of cynicysm there? :o

Hi,

> when the dust settles and the Alien finally debuts

Is this ever going to happen? Ever? This thing has been talked about in hushed tones, behind-the-hand whispers and terms of "I've seen it, but I'm not allowed to talk about it" for almost as long as I have been aware of Steadicam equipment period.

If this was the computer software industry, people would have been screaming vapourware a year ago.

Ruben...just making a sad joke my friend, sad but true.

I too have tried one of the alien prototypes here in LA and was very impressed with the technology behind it. I can't begin to understand how much time/work Lynn has put into this thing. I'm not sure it will change life as we know it here on planet steadicam, but it will be a great tool to have available to us for shots that need it.

I, too, have seen a working prototype and test flown it at Lynn's in Las Vegas. It is quite amazing, it does work, and it does indeed exist.

I understand the frustration of others who have heard about it but don't know much about it and haven't seen it. If I hadn't seen it myself, I would wonder if it was "vaporware" too.

As we all know, R&D/prototyping costs can be stratospheric, and for an individual like Lynn to bear those costs is hard to imagine, yet he has done just that by himself for the most part. Just because the busines end of producing and bringing a new and radically different product to market can (and clearly has) delayed the official debut of the Alien, don't think that it's all talk. As I'm sure anyone who has seen it/tried it will agree... Lynn's invention is nothing short of fantastic

It's been in the works for years!

The prototype was shown to many, including myself, a couple years ago already. It's definately a cool rig to fly, and I was amazed by what I was able to do with it. But watching Lynn fly it was even more spectacular.

Sadly, Lynn Nicholson has hit many roadblocks in the development process (mostly in finding a financial partner and the building and distribution of it).

He got his partner last year in Howard Smith, maker of the MK-V.

The production model was to be shown at Cinegear this past summer (2003) but another roadblock delayed it.

It's also refered as the Alien Revolution now, and as to when it will come out for purchase, well really only Lynn and Howard would know for sure.

I understand the Alien Revolution from MK-V was on demo today at Panavision in L.A today; for invited operators.

If you were one of the twenty or so operators that saw it in action;

;) was it worth the wait ?

 Does it stabilize the shot ?

 Is it what weve all been waiting for ?

 Any info gratefully received.

Hi "SledHead" (I wish the names things was up and running)

Yes you are correct.

Regarding the details of what happened you will have to wait and see.

All ops who were there know they are not to post about the AR - so sorry you will have to wait a little longer.

By the way who are you and how do you know??

If anyone would like to be on the mailing list for info on the AR system please email

AR@mk-v.com

Until then I am afraid you will have to wait a little longer.

many thanks

Howard J Smith MK-V

Ps the answer to your questions is Yes.

In addition... even if we could speak about it... I'd like to know who's the "we" you are referencing when you asked, "Is it everything that we've been waiting for?"??

Whoever you are, you just registered today, this is your first post, and you write as if you are a seasoned operator. Why hide behind a new alias?

Hello.

Out of curiosity I would please like to kindly ask Mr Howard J Smith why is it such a secret to talk about and picture the allien, if as I know from Mr Lynn Nickolson and his mails is already patented and secured.

Is this to make the steadicam world more curius about it and for marketing or there is something else?

Also stating a time table of when this is going on production, instead of wait a little longer and a little more longer should be the right thing to do.

I remember a site called the revolution, and statements like we will send info about it and all that has disapered and gone.

Personaly I know what it can do and can imagine how it looks like but I cant stop being curius.

Also there are ops in the rest of the world, that is difficult to be in the us.

Dont make this a dissadvandage to us please.
