Hey mates, I own a Master Film Steadicam and I'm planning to upgrade it to HD, but I have many doubts if it's possible or not...the main doubt I have is if the electronics, as digital level and frame lines, can support this upgrade....thanks a lot for your attention and advices.

Hi Octavi,

The best bet is taking an rg179 75 ohm cable (you have them in clear or black, you'll never see it again anyway). And run it along the twisted wirebundle going from the top stage to the "k-section". I've taken a look inside the master's electronics to do some simple wire repair and it's quite simple. You have to take time to unplug every single cable, but you'd only have to do that on one side really (I recommend the top stage).

Once your new hd coax is bundled together with the rest you can choose to add an extra connector or use the opening from the old sd-bnc (when I did this upgrade to my baerbel sled I used one of the 2 available sd-bncs.) Then it's just a matter of crimping or twisting (depending on which kind of process you prefer) the cable to a female chassis bnc, tighten it in place and presto! You've got HD-SDI through the post.

Because this is basicly a direct link from connector to connector, it does not get bypassed by the frameliner or bubble level as these do not support HD. External HD bubblelevels can be added depending on your monitor and most lcd monitors have built in frameline software.

If you're scared of doing this upgrade yourself, i've read a lot of praising comments about Terry West when it comes to cable related upgrades. If you're based in Europe i'd suggest you give Christian Betz from Betz Tools a call or Curt Schaller from Artemis, they're the european cable guru's, both stationed in/around M
