are any of the new receivers compatible with the original bolt pro?

Hey Jess,

We actually already have a new fan-less RX for the existing Bolt Pro system. Its about the same size, has better mounting options , and is now half metal half plastic. I believe the upgrade price is $250, but ill have to double check on that for you. I don't have a picture on me at the moment, but I will post when I do get one. As for the latest RX units w/ GRAB and LCD, we're certainly looking to make them compatible with older Bolt Pro systems, but I haven't received word on if and when that will happen.

Jamie,

Thanks for the kind words! :)

We are definitely looking into the best way to upgrade our existing customers. Will post an update as soon as I can.

Will the new systems be cross-compatible? As in, will a 600 transmitter be able to be received by both a 300 receiver and a 600? That would be a perfect setup for both small monitors for ACs and the director (with the 300 RX) and a 600 back at village.

Tom,

Not right now. They're using different chipsets so compatibility is not easy right off the bat. We are still looking to find a way for cross-compatibility.

Lawrence,

The Bolt 2000 is not out of date. The same chip/board in that unit is the same in the current unit - we just updated the chassis. In fact, the TX is almost identical, except it now has dual inputs (HDMI + 3G-SDI) instead of only 3G-SDI.

We are evaluating trade in and upgrades programs and should have more info after next week.

As a heads up, I'm going to be traveling to Vegas today for NAB so I apologize for any delayed responses.

Mike, you've always been fair and helpful with me. But I have to disagree with you. The rx has been redesigned and includes HDMI output as well and an LCD display and is smaller. That looks to me like a significant change to a product that I bought only 5 weeks ago and I imagine the resale value of my already outdated 5 week old unit has been significantly reduced. No mention of these changes were mentioned at the demo I attended only 2 months ago!

the Bolt 600 needs to be priced under 4K to 5K to be a "no brainer", since we are not getting any more rental for it. The Bolt 2000 is clearly a specialty item and priced accordingly...

Hey Jens!

Why are you still not charging extra rental for your HD wireless system? I quit giving "free" wireless out after the Canatrans system. For a while I gave the option of free NTSC or paid HD wireless. Now it's paid HD wireless only at $350 a day.

I'm not picking on you Jens but how the heck we all got pushed into including Prestons and wireless and all these other expensive pieces of kit into the "Steadicam Buffett" is beyond my understanding.

I've had zero push back on charging for HD wireless.

Lawrence,

I completely understand where you're coming from and believe me, its happened to me before with audio equipment. While the performance should be just about the same, it is true the new chassis design offers a lot of bang for the buck. I've been told there will definitely be an upgrade program and we will do our absolute best to take care of the customers that bought just before these new updates. To be fair, the Sales team and I didn't even know about these devices until just 2 weeks ago!

I will personally follow up with you as soon as I get more info about an upgrade process.

And to amplify what Lawrence said;

usually upgrade programs are announced at the time of new product announcement, not after.

Once announced, the onslaught of sales will only make Teradek's upgrade incentive that much less, leaving many not so happy customers. Myself included in that cohort.

Mike, there are companies in this business that I would never put my money into again primarily because they don't stand by their products once another model is brought to market, or if defective won't take responsibility for the repair ( see a certain company that makes arms, puts defective bearings in them and then charges people to replace the problematic bearings). I am hopeful that your management team acts more like PRO or XCS than those other companies. Stand by the product, make products upgradeable, and treat your customers as valued associates who are eager to work together to use your products for a long time to come, knowing that your primary concern is to help the customer not profit.

Jamie,

Copy that. I have confirmation there indeed will be an upgrade program and as soon as I receive details, they will be posted. You must understand that NAB is literally a sprint to finalize our latest and greatest products. Fortunately, we managed to just about wrap up the new hardware in the nick of time, but we didn't have a chance to finalize the details on the upgrades (mostly because we don't even have pricing for the new 600 model or 300 model).

We stand by our products and I regularly jump on here to make sure everyone's concerns and feedback are passed on to our management and engineering teams.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I want to be frank with you and I want you guys to trust that we have the best interest of our customers at the forefront of our decisions.

Ill post as soon as I hear more.
