I'm curious why you think this Alan. What is it that makes these more suited to the medical field than set life?

 

In my mind having a battery that has a rubberized shell makes complete sense with all of the abuse they take on set. But there may be other aspects I'm unaware of.

These are for sure set batteries, they're for HD cameras according to the description. Also they are being presented at a broadcast technology show, rather than a medical technology show.

 

Their design to me says AB is trying to look sleek and cool, probably to attract the generation of young new film makers who like buzz words and stuff like that.

I'm not saying that they're not awesome batteries. I'm saying that these batteries, at least from an industrial design standpoint, were most likely made first with the medical industry in mind.

Everything currently on their medical site is white, as I would expect, including white Dionics. Not to say these new batts won't also be used in a medical setting, white or not, I just think these are screaming for Red user attention both in their described purpose and visual appearance.

I wonder if an HC which is in the mid 300's cost mid 3000's when purchased by the medical field?

 

I have inquired what a new set of 150wh batts and the new charger cost..you know, to be cool with the new kids on set these days.

I have seen AVS 160WH gold mount batteries with a D-Tap AND a USB 5V outlet right on the batteries. I wonder if these new ones have any of that?

V mounts, eh? Screaming for that Red user money. Quite frankly, good for them. I like the charger, and the ability to use it as a hot-swappable block batt. I'll be interested to see how often that is utilized, have to have more than one charger after all.

 

No need to look for adapters? Cause why buy one adapter when you can buy several batteries? ;)

 

And to nitpick: it's 1 installed on a device plus 2 loose per carry on, not just 1 on device and 1 in a carry on :P

Impressions of Day 1:

• BlackMagic has a cheap camera, the buzz is decidedly AGAINST it primarily based on how much everyone hates BlackMagic's support of their current cameras.
• Everyone seems very jazzed about the AJA camera, and rightly so: looks like an Alexa mated with a Phantom. Lots of connections, seems ergonomic, lots of flat spots for mounting accessories and velcro, etc. An AC friend of mine gave it the highest accolade any AC will give a camera: "I don't hate it."
• PAG now makes 3-stud "gold mount" batteries that seem to work with Anton Bauer gold mounts, and they stack, so you can have 5 batteries stacked high, and they'll charge (and discharge) in order of outermost battery. I was inordinately excited by that.
• The guy doing interviews at the Teradek booth didn't know Garrett Brown invented the Steadicam, introduced him first as "Gary".
• Chris Fawcett made Lynn Nicholson's auto-leveling platform, it looks awesome, seems to work beautifully.
• The number of Movi knockoffs was double digits.
