To folks who saw the Gold Mount versions in person. Do the new batteries have a D Tap on them? I couldn't tell from the pics I've seen or on the Video of the V Mount versions linked above. It does not look like they do, but just checking here with folks who have actually seen them in person. Thanks

Impressions of Day 1:

  • Everyone seems very jazzed about the AJA camera, and rightly so: looks like an Alexa mated with a Phantom. Lots of connections, seems ergonomic, lots of flat spots for mounting accessories and velcro, etc. An AC friend of mine gave it the highest accolade any AC will give a camera: "I don't hate it."

Yeah, looks great. But the price; $9K. Jesus, that's $20k less than the Sony F55.

"Confirmed, Dionic HC are a thing of the past, buy them while still available…."

Jens, forgive me if this has been discussed elsewhere (yeah, I know I'm a moderator, but I'm way behind on the forum - three weeks of insane hours on a Pilot). I've seen a few pics of the new style batteries; how will these mate to a PRO base (2, 3, and 4)? I'm guessing the front position on a PRO 2 is problematic but how about the 3 and 4?

Confirmed, Dionic HC are a thing of the past, buy them while still available....

this must be the single most frustrating this for sled manufacturers (and thos who like balanced sleds) -- every few years AB changes their batteries up, and often they sit differently so they may not be centered

Alec, I believe without testing, the batteries will fit fine with the exception of the Gen 2 Monitor battery position.

They have ballooned, like somebody pumped them up with air. They spaced out the cells more to create channels for the hot air to escape and more space around the pack in case of a drop.

BUT the cells are identical

and according to Anton Bauer you will be able to charge new and old batteries on all chargers after a firmware upgrades....

I know it's stupid, but I liked the HC's design better all square and tight versus this space ship shape that will hardly fit in a case or bag. Ans what about this T shaped charger? how do you pack that in a bag. Plus touch screen? Was that all necessary?

I'd agree on the shape. With the PRO 3 base, I frequently take advantage of the flat sided batteries to set the rig down on a countertop, table, or apple box when I'm standing around and the stand is either too big or not immediately accessible. Maybe these will sit flat too. I don't know, I haven't seen them, but they don't look like they will.

Hi everyone

The work that Larry is doing with the Movi on the steadicam OMG .The footage at the beginning great .

I feel very lucky to have been working with Larry throughout his exploration of the MoVI, and seeing how he's looked at it has been incredible! (And also I'm more than a little proud to see things I helped make flying on a serious job like that!) I think that he's really pioneering what can be done with gimbal stabilizers, and of all the people to pioneer a camera movement technique, he's the one to do it.

I am surprised nobody so far has mentioned what I think will be one of the coolest things to have come out at NAB though! The Wagner Level Assistant. Automatic compensation for pendulum effects. Will it work? Who knows! But it's cool sounding! http://steadicam.com/userimages/Steadicam_WXB-ss.pdf

I'm more interested in the articulating armature that connected the Movi to Larry's rig than I am in the Movi itself. There will be better versions of Movi type stabilizers but connecting them to the rig in a useful way is what I want to know about. Whats the story there?
