Just returned from workshop

I've just had the great privilege of taking the Steadicam workshop in Rockport, ME last week. Paul Taylor was a fantastic instructor and never for a minute did I feel it was not money well spent. I guess for all of you that have taken one, you already know the high you're on afterwards. I know that my skill has improved 1000% and I'm only that much more eager to get out and continue its improvement. For anybody that is considering taking a workshop, consider no more. It's the perfect place to have any and all questions you have about the equipment and career answered instantly.

 

So, I guess now I just have to get myself a rig. .....so... if you could all just give me money....... yeah.... that would be great..... thanks.

 

BTW, Mr. Papert, if you're reading this, I told Paul of my brief exchanges with you here on the forum. He had some very good words to say about you.

I was the same after i did the optex course I can tell you :D , though the time inbetween doing the workshop and getting my first rig was almost unbearable :o

Eventually i got the flyer and i belive it has been amazing for learning the trade. I can fly 1000% longer than my full size brothers and all that time with a steadicam in your hands really pays off. Not forgetting that doing the workshop putt me on the right path and stopped me picking up any off thoughs nasty habbits you just wouldn't think about self learnig.

My friend, you could not be more right. I feel like each day that goes by that I do not have a rig and am not practicing, I'm missing out on such valuable learning and play time. Rationally, I know that getting my finances and business plan together is an important step before getting the equipment, but still, I can't scratch this itch hard enough.

Glad you enjoyed the workshop Afton (hope Rockport wasn't too muggy!) Paul is a great instructor, I used to have a lot of fun teaching with him up there ten years ago.

 

For the record, it took me four years from workshop to buying my first rig, and yes, it was indeed interminable! Boston Camera had bought out the assets of a defunct rental house including their Model 1 (which I had learned on and had been renting up to that point) and didn't want to keep the rig in their rental inventory, so I picked it up.
