Power Up Scout Monitor

Hey everyone,

 

I am a new member in this forum and I recently bought a new Scout steadicam.

 

Please excuse my ignorance but can you tell how to power up the Scout monitor?

 

Do I have to buy any additional wires or is the cable included?

Within the package there is a 12V cable (which is also wired through the post) but it cannot seem to fit onto any of the monitors connections.

 

Any help will be much appreciated!

Hey Cristina,

 

Could you by any chance post a picture of the mentioned connector, and the cables that are already plugged into the monitor (if any) ?

 

The monitor on the scout should be wired for both power and video by default, and you should only need cables to connect your camera to the topstage.

Thank you for your very quick reply.

 

I've posted two photos of the wired cables that run through the post, and one photo of the monitor's connections.

What I am I missing here?

I've got the Canon C100 do you know by any chance what cables i might need to connnect it with the topstage?

Steadicams are SDI and the c100 is HDMI, you will need a converter from HDMI to SDI to plug your camera to the sled. As for your monitor cable, call Dan Ikeda at Tiffen, he should be able to help you.

I'm based in the Uk - if a solution can't be found I'll call them up here and ask them.

 

Also, the monitor has an HDMI input - it should work with the C100 shouldn't it (when its powered up ofcourse) ?

Hey Cristina,

 

try Robin Thwaites at Tiffen UK, he'll be able to help you and is based in the UK.

 

However the plugs look fairly standard, have you tried connecting the BNC cable (bigger one of the 2 connectors) to the HD-SDI in
and the power-plug to the power-in of the monitor? Not sure 100% from the photos if the power plug fits, but the BNC one should fit,

that much is obvious.

 

The for the HDMI-Part you would either need to run an external HDMI line down to your monitor or just get an HD-SDI converter
from the C100 to the topstage (I dont know the C100, but doesn't it have an HD-SDI out?)

Hi Frederic, once again thank you for your input! Much appreciated!

I finally figured out the problem - why the monitor wasn't powering up.

 

I was missing a small cable - that connects with the 12V power cable and has a male mini XLR on the other end.

The male mini XLR connects straight to the monitor's female mini XLR connection.

As for connecting the C100 with the Steadicam I'll do a good research along the lines of a HDMI to SDI converter, as you suggested.
