Matthew Marshall
Works pretty good, I'll have footage up from a fashion show at some point. I was just wondering though. I don't have any experience in it but it says it supports 3rd party dbus and ppm receivers. I suppose it would be more related to drone technology however would it be possible to make your own remote control? In any case, its great as a BCam although briefcase mode can get a bit finicky. I also suspect I cannot properly balance it because the 5d Mark II I'm using for BCam is too light. I'll be playing with it a bit trying to get it to work. Premium Members Peter Hoare Posted October 16, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 16, 2014 Yes, Dbus and PPM are the radio controlled hobby industry control systems. You would be able to buy any cheap RC plane controller and plug it in and do pan/tilt. PLC Electronics also makes a hand wheels box that plugs into a standard RC transmitter (which talks to the Dbus or PPM receiver) so you can control the ronin with hand wheels which is pretty neat. http://shop.plcelectronicsolutions.com/categories/VERACITY-CONTROL-WHEELS/?sort=pricedesc Pete. Abad Rosa
Those handwheels are $4300??? How are they more than an actual used Worral Gearhead?
Mariano Costa
Those handwheels are $4300??? How are they more than an actual used Worral Gearhead? That's something I can't wrap my head around either. The ronin costs much less then these wheels, that's gonna be a tough sell...
Premium Members Jarrett P. Morgan Posted November 18, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 18, 2014 The thing that would scare me is if brushless gimbal technology keeps moving forward at the rate it is currently going and the wheels loosing their compatibility with the newest and best ones. (granted, given the way they communicate I don't forsee that being an issue, but still) That all being said, the ability to use wheels to control one of the brushless gimbals makes it orders better in terms of usability. Mariano Costa
I`m sceptical of the wheels. They`re only useful on slower and well rehearsed moves.

Mariano Costa
Well that's your opinion, it's not mine.... Really? Didn't know that, but now it kind of makes sense! Edited November 20, 2014 by Mariano Costa
Mariano Costa
Well that's your opinion, it's not mine.... I gave it a second thought and have to correct my initial assessment. I guess it's mostly because of the rather non portable nature of these wheels because I don't think that you can always operate remotely, in the sense of: not at the side of the operator of the gimbal. I think you often need to have at last a quick glimpse at the surrounding area of the gimbal.

Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted November 20, 2014 Moderators Report Share Posted November 20, 2014 I love wheels and still can't wrap my brain around joysticks.
Premium Members JamieSilverstein Posted November 20, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 20, 2014 Joystick bad, Wheels good. If you grew up in the business using wheels to operate a camera or a remote head, you would understand that they are the most precise tool (to date) for making a shot. They can move the camera as quickly or as finely as any other instrument and provide the operator a much more finessed tool to adjust the camera. That being said, what works for one won't necessarily work for another.
Mariano Costa
Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying that joysticks are the way to go, they're a compromise or rather a residue of the gimbals origins and by no means made for film. No, what I mean is that I am wondering if the wheels can give you fast and precise enough controls in non rehearsed situations like live shows etc.
