Hi all;

Finally I think the perfect steadicam vehicle is here.

Google electric unicycle (I'm on a train and website not coming up).

Also CNN has a story on them now.

Compact, cheap, and easy mount dismount to save your life or continue the shot.

Has anyone tried it? I'm going to see about ordering details later in week, I'll let u know

Janice

I've seen one up close, one of the guys in a music video I did 2 months ago had one and was talking about trying to bring them to the US. They seem cool, but I'd be terrified of trip hazards. The foot-ground clearance while moving is very small, and I saw the guys NOT wearing a Steadicam have some issues negotiating a flat parking lot on it.

I like the idea of a quick dismount into traditional operating mode. Looked up the 'Solo Wheel' but the max weight was 250lbs. I'm already at 190 so myself plus the rig is reaching the limits. Surely there must be a model(s) with higher weight capacity.

But if has a model(s) with higher weight capacity, carryingit will be very inconvenient.

Reminds me :many candidate light bulb attempts before Edison; ... of course he didn't invent it but his lab made it practical, As Dean Kamen and his more than humble and capable engineers didn't invent the first self leveling inverted pendulum transporter,They had the gumption to produce it, give it redundancy, make it safe enough, put it out on the market, even in USA the most litigious country on earth. As they cleared the way, almost anyone could follow.

The Civil Air Patrol learned decades ago that, when flying search missions, someone had to devote their whole attention to piloting the plane, while others looked for the target.

I would think that the same holds true in using a vehicle with Steadicam. Someone has to drive, someone has to shoot, and the workload demands that these not be the same person at any particular moment, because the mindsets each job requires are too different, yet both immersive . . .and the slightest missed "ball" in that juggling demonstration could cost thousands of dollars.
