Tomas Frigstad
Anyone tried this setup? I have an upcoming shoot with an Amira setup with CP2's, C-motion running one motor and video link. With the Amira body being approx. 4.1kgs, the CP2's weighing about 1 kgs each, with batteries and accessories I would probably be pushing 10kgs. I can consider losing the mattebox to lower the weight, but I thought I'd check with you guys if any of you have experience with this setup, or if you think it's simply a bad idea to even try. I can alternatively access an Epic which I know for sure I can fly on the Zephyr, but would be interested in trying to rig up the Amira, if possible of course. Also I'm assuming I would have to run power off the camera battery unless I can power the Amira with 12V from the Zephyr. Any thoughts? Premium Members Ryan Brooks Posted November 4, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 4, 2014 Get the additional battery hanger and power Amira 24v off the sled. Terry West can make you a cable. He does great work.
Premium Members David M. Aronson Posted November 5, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 5, 2014 I'm not sure if they fixed this in a firmware update, but the Amira won't run free-run timecode without the viewfinder attached. I'm not sure if the weight of the handle/viewfinder and VF is included in the 4.1kg arri quotes for the body, so keep it in mind when doing your estimate. Mariano Costa
That's what I hate about Arri's website. On some items they have exact info about the weight, on others nothing, like their cinetape, single axis controller, external encoder and so on... Tomas Frigstad
Thank you for your replies guys. I was actually told today that the Amira can be powered through 12V, so if that's correct I wouldn't necessarily need to modify the Zephyr to get it running it seems. However, we decided to go for the Epic instead, as the Amira seemed to really push 10kgs with all accessories attached. Would still love to hear if anyone ever tried rigging the Amira to a Zephyr, though!
Premium Members Ryan Brooks Posted November 10, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 10, 2014 Ran the Amira on my Zephyr last night. Flys great! Incredible camera and image! Had a power cable made from Terry West and was able to power not just the camera from my sled but also the follow focus (single motor), Bolt, and my monitor. To do this I added the extra battery hanger to power whole sled with 24v. Flew very well. As well as it flew, it was near top of range with the added matte box as far as weight goes. I'm also pretty sure I was pushing my power range as well. Hoping to upgrade my system starting next year. But all in all a good run.
