Gary,

both the 450 nits and the 900 nits version have AR coated glass fronts, not bonded though.

Re: brightness. I'm using the regular brightness (450) Rainbow HD as an on-board monitor and it is plenty bright in daylight, visually much brighter than my assistants TVlogic with 1000 nits. So, having said that, i think the 900nits version should be sufficient for Steadicam.

it also has the build in level, custom zoom, flip, hdmi, sdi, cvbs, battery plates, etc

The main reason I ask about bonded is I used to have fogging issues with my old Rainbow IIA and I would be reluctant to place something over the screen if it had the same reflective effect that you get with the DP7. That SmallHD screen protector makes it almost useless in daylight it is so reflective.

I think 3.9lbs is a good monitor weight to aim for because it then almost perfectly matches the weight of two batteries at the opposite end of the base on the bottom of a rig.

This makes dynamic balance really easy and simple, it also means you don't have to stretch the monitor really far away from the rig to counter-balance the batteries on the base if you don't want to.

Also please test viewing angle/viewability in tilted and tabled/co-planar next to the Cinetronic monitors.

Regardless of people's opinions on the company the viewability of their monitors is still an excellent benchmark to compare against.

Thanks

James

Looks like the monitor is going to weigh in at about 25 oz / 1.5 lbs / .71 kg.

Viewing angle is a full 170 x170 (H&V).

Also....one of the pros testing the monitor on-set right now said that "it's off angle viewing and anit-glare are fantastic."

The protective glass is removable via 4 simple screws, so in Daylight situations there is no chance of ruining the anti-reflective properties (nor fogging up).

Best,

Gary

Re: water resistant....... It was literally under water, ocean water for a few seconds. I rinsed it off with fresh water and let it dry out in the sun. An hour or so later is was on my rig and working fine. That was close to ten years ago? The monitor is still working fine.

A digital horizon would be HUGE! Wether internal or external sensor, as long as it works properly and can hold it's calibration through whip pans. Lack of a solid digital horizon indicator a big gaping hole in the class of steadicam monitors under $3K. I would buy one of these in a heartbeat. And yes, we're all aware of SmallHD's horizon indicator, but unfortunately it's useless and needs alot of work.
