Premium Members Adi Visser SOC SASO Posted December 6, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 6, 2015 Using the mini on a long show now as my steadicam camera and b camera and its great! Finding the weight difference amazing and still running it with a onboard battery its still so much lighter = less strain, i take the eyepiece off and the ac controls all settings from his iphone, amazing camera. NOT Simon Blouin
Hello Adriaan, I'm probably gonna be using it for few months soon, do you have a photo of your steadicam setup with the mini? Would you compare the weight to a RED camera?
Premium Members brett.mayfield Posted December 7, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 7, 2015 both cameras are 5 lbs, but Mini has 2xBNC and more. building for steadicam will depend on the cage, but they have been pretty similar cages so far. battery plate will be connected to 15mm support rather than an attached module like RED. this will give you space to put aks between camera body and battery plate. do not remove the antenna. I have used several different wireless options, but the best has been teradek 2000 with the AB mounts, so you can power camera and teradek and other aks from top battery. or run all the power through the bottom of your sled for a super minimal experience. no battery on top at all. makes for a very short sled, but could be worth it depending on what you're shooting. Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted December 7, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 7, 2015 sorry, but your rig looks like it's not dynamically balanced? The single battery weighs in at 2 lbs and the monitor is 3.7lbs plus yoke and it's way further out.
Premium Members brett.mayfield Posted December 7, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 7, 2015 no its definitely not dynamically balanced. this was not on a shoot, but a day where we were flying through different configurations. I also wouldn't leave the antennae against my shoulder...

Andrew Ng
Wanted to chime in with some Mini intel from the Teradek forefront. We've had a few of our new COLR units out in the field and on set. Immediately designed as a wireless LUT box which was envisioned to be living on a DIT cart or monitor. Turns out there's an application for it ON camera. We'll have some more documentation in the near future as it seems to be a popular workflow, but just want you all to be aware! In addition to its ability to apply and store LUTs, operators have been playing with the Gig-E port. With this, they're connecting directly to the Mini and taking advantage of the latest SUP 3.0 firmware and camera control functions. Here's a silly little hype video we were able to briefly capture during our last visit to Abel. https://vimeo.com/147792588 But as I mentioned, more info to come, if you have any specific questions or clarifications, please don't hesitate to shout! Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted December 8, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 8, 2015 If shooting UHD 3.2k whatever the second BNC will only output a clean 3G HD-SDI signal, you can't get framelines, overscan, 1.5G, etc... Also if you get a garbled image it is probably set to output at 48fps.
Premium Members brett.mayfield Posted December 8, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 8, 2015 with the new anamorphic update i couldnt even get a signal to my transvideo from the 2nd Mon out. I think it defaults to 6G and was stuck there. We did this in front of Sebastien from ARRI Canada though, and he seemed surprised, so maybe there will be a new fix soon. Premium Members Sanjay Sami Posted December 16, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 16, 2015 Just used the Mini for a fairly long one shot scene in a movie I am on right now. Ive had the Alexa XT on the movie until now and the DP - Marc Koninckx - an ex steadicam operator himself, insisted I get the Mini for the shot. What a pleasure. I love this camera. KoernerCamera
The Alexa Mini has been a big hit over here. We have included a Wooden Camera D-box with ours so that you get Anton Bauer power plus all the 24v and 12v accessory ports. It also provides hot swap capability. We have 4 Arri Mini's and can't keep them in house! You can side mount and top mount the battery plate as well and mount the shoulder pad on the top rods for handheld. -C Koernercamera.com
