Danny Bartle
Hi all, I'm about to purchase a new Teradeck Bolt transmitter but am unsure which one would be best for general steadicam work - the 300, 600 or 2000 model? Which model do you use for steadicam?...
Premium Members Walter F. Rodriguez Posted March 21, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 21, 2015 Wow, it is really about how much you have to spend. I used the Original Bolt Pro SDI for two years and loved it as a focus monitor wireless for all the handheld the dp I work for do. For some jobs I needed more range so upgraded to the 2000. I have never used the 600 but it is obviously twice the range of the 300.
Premium Members Mike McGowan SOC Posted March 22, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 22, 2015 Im using the 2000 now and love it. One advantage of the 2000 is you can sub rent it to other productions when your not using it, it's a pretty rentable piece of kit.
Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted March 22, 2015 Moderators Report Share Posted March 22, 2015 I have a 2000 as well. The 300 is making its way on set more and more though (versus the Boxx standard) so you can't really go wrong with any of them
Premium Members Brad Hruboska Posted March 22, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 22, 2015 yeah the 2ooo is really my personal go to. the 300 was just on a show i did, two cameras, very little issues so long as the receiver was in a reasonable range. the only issue i have had is the 2000 does not play well sometimes with other transmitters. Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted March 22, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 22, 2015 I am still using the original Bolt Pro which is supposedly equivalent to the 300 (although the one time i had both on set the Pro seemed to have a more robust link than the 300). At short distances it works like a champ and has zero problems. As long as you keep the receiver and transmitter up reasonably high the range is rather good too. The only time I have had problems is when ACs insist on burying the receiver down low and then putting video village a ways from camera. I made a stand mount for the receiver but lots of ACs would rather velcro it to the back of a monitor or worse (my favorite was bongo tieing the 300 and the pro receiver together and to the c-stand the monitor was mounted on. The Pro was actually still fine as camera was close but the 300 wouldn't have it). If money is no option the 2000 is definitely the way to go and will be the most hassle free. That said the other options are perfectly workable and seem to be what most people are used to.
