Wearing Vest too low cutting off blood circulation

Hi Folks,

Have anyone experienced blood circulation being cut off for wearing the vest too low around the slightly below the pelvic bone tendon muscle area?

Today I was operating a shot and had to lock on a static shot for almost 8mins. Half way through I felt numbing sensation going down my legs. I strip off my vest the moment the camera cut and i could not feel my legs for 20mins. After 4 hours after wrap till now I can still feel tingling sensation down my legs.

Should I be worried? Advise please.

Hiro-

I don't think you should be worried about permanent damage, but you don't want to repeat this. Clearly you need to rethink how you wear the vest- certainly higher, but also think about the tightness of the waist straps.

You don't mention what sort of vest you have (front/back) or the manufacturer, so we can't comment too specifically.

However, if it's a front mount vest, you might try adding some padding in front of the hip bones, and eliminating all or most of the padding across your bladder area. You might also try to create a gap in the tensioning waist straps contacting you body at the sides: add a bit more padding at the back of the hip bones.

Hiro,

I have the same vest and had to crunch it all the way down in the vertical adjustment. I also did away with the small middle pad in back, the one on the lowest (hip) buckle strap. Otherwise I couldn't get it tight enough on the hips. In the end I feel the vest could be even smaller for someone our size. I wonder how much it would help my operating to have a custom sized vest..... Just one more thing to upgrade...

Though I think trying Jerry's advice will help both of us. Which sled did you end up getting, the cine HD?

Hiro,

What you might have had was meralgia parasthetica, a temporary nerve damage, which can over time transition into permanent nerve damage—if you repeat whatever caused it too much. You need to shorten the vest a little so you don't experience this problem again. In the enclosed photos, you'll see the (white) inguinal ligament passing over the (yellow) lateral cutaneous femoral nerve. When the ligament is compressed, it traps the nerve against the pelvis. Try to avoid comprising that area by following Jerry's suggestions.

All the best,

Chris
