WiFi Video Transmitter

I was at a Steadicam course this past week (Maine Workshops), and the instructor mentioned he heard about a WiFi video transmitter that was coming out soon (instead of using the Modulus 3000). Have any of you heard about it?

There was some company at IBC ... damned if I can remeber the name now.. that was demoing wireless video over WiFi. .. looked prety good, and I was actually supprized how small lag time it had.

Not sure on the range and netwrok requirements tho. - would be cool if it woudl run on any WiFi network, and hop from AP to AP..

Sorry, not much help I know, I don't even know if it's the same company, but it's an oppinion :)

Pretty sad actaully if you ask me, that soon we will be able to read our e-mail (and the forum!) from our sled ... though that is one less reason to have to dock!

Hi Guys

The company you are after is "The Boxx" - www.the-boxx.tv

If you are in the UK/Europe then you need Scott Walker or in the US Mark Walker at the Boxx in LA.

Thanks again chaps for letting us share you stand at IBC.

If anyone would like more info please email the guys above or myslef.

Take care

Howard MK-V

I was talking of another one actually... - So there's definatly a few coming out.

But The Boxx kit worked really well too -one of them spent most of the show on a Clipper2 at Tiffen hooked up to a nice big plasma TV.. very nice. lag time was .5 sec tho.

Chris, does that thign come with an accesory that lights up your tally light when there's a new post on the forum? ;)

Hi all,

Another company that showed a WiFi-video link at IBC was IDX (yes, the battery-people). It's called WEVI. The transmitter has a V-mount, so it sits nicely between the camera and the battery. Tried WEVI home page, just states addresses... At IBC they told me the price would be somewhere around ?1800 for a transmitter/receiver set.

Hope this helps!

Take care,

Sven

Wow this looks very interesting (the-boxx) !

Howard, did you notice any downsides compared to analog systems ?

Were there huge differences between analog and digital sytems in similar conditions ?

The range seems to be quite similar, doesn't it ?

The prices are ok (1800 $ for the Tx, 1800 $ for the Rx).

What about using more than one receiver (for displaying on more than one monitor), is that possible ?

Thanks,

Nils.

Hi Nils

The Boxx system is very interesting as you can have upto 6 cameras on the same set with multi recivers and also link straight to web so the video assist can be viewed anywhere in the world.

The delay is 10 frames at the moment and they also do a box for the sound so when watching with headphones all is in sync.

The picture is stunning and the unit very light weight.

Plus it now has a 4 pin 0b lemo for power and video.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Howard

Hello everyone.

We are the company that showed the new digital microwave system at IBC and NAB this year.

Please have a look at www.boxx.tv.

On our home page, click 'Analog vs digital demo.', then launch 'the boxx in use demonstration'

This video shows how stable our system is through walls and movement while being used by Christopher TJ McGuire.

I am happy to answer any questions so please email me if I can help.

Howard Smith at MK-5 is also selling our system.

Regards

Scott Walker

My question is, the pricelist on the website, is that including reciever?

If so, i want one :-)

Looks very nice.

The price list for the Transmitters is here : http://www.boxx.tv/shop_transmitter.html

The price list for the Receivers is here : http://www.boxx.tv/shop_receivers.html

The lightweight Transmitter costs 1800 $.

The lightweight Receiver costs 1800 $.

The High gain receiver costs 2700 $.

In their "terms and conditions", they say :

"All prices on our website are inclusive of VAT and delivery charges."

The-boxx uses composite or component video with 2 channels of audio.

Some hi-def cameras don?t output composite video so if you?re shooting with a 900 hi def, you can transmit full component video. It makes a big difference if you are displaying on a large monitor, (and the DOP loves you for it).

The-boxx is £990/ $1800 each for the TX/RX., £1980/$3600 as set. This is the list price so we can do a bit better then that.

Other points:

The biggest problem we are having on sets is getting people to work with the delay. (½ second)

We sell (or you can buy off the internet) a delay unit so the sound department can delay the audio to match the camera pictures. Search for a Behringer DSP110. They are about £50/$90. If you are sending the sound from the camera then it is in sync.

We have another system on the way which has a 4 frame delay.

It uses as many receivers as you need to cover the area. It works like a cell phone network. As the camera moves from room to room it jumps onto the closest receiver/repeater.

Thank you for pointing the below out. This is incorrect. Sorry about that. I will have it changed.

Very impressive, you can count on ILM as one of your customers soon.
