"Its going to be a hard sell but I will bet anyone here that in a year from now, this systems will be the norm and we will be talking about how we used to do it in ?the old analogue days?."

I don t think it will be hard to sell and it certainly has it s applications whilst not at all encompasing they are definate.

Thomas,

Would a four frame delay be acceptable?

Not sure; maybe. I still have doubts though, but I'd sure give it a shot if one showed up on set. It may be a live and learn situation.

Anyway, Thomas, I'm very envious of your job. I so wanted to go over-there and work with Milton because he really is one of the "good ones." Alas, it was not in the budget, etc to go, but I think the world of Milton, so please tell him I said hello and I hope you guys are having a blast. I look forward to seeing the footage.

Cheers,

he is one of the good ones....very dark movie.. I was not able to watch the rushes they distressed me too much!... not enough money to keep me there for the days they wanted. The days I did I did for next to nothing but when work came up, work came up..... really pissed production off but thats the nature of the beast. I did not get invited to the wrap party.

pulled off some crazy shot s when I was there. This was a shoot in a big mansion house, my radio link left a lot to be desired! even at 1w 2.4GHz. It was this shoot that made me want to go 1.394GHz diversity as well as a rickshaw comercial I did the next week.

Anyone know the delay on the IDX version yet? it is half the price of the the boxx

Is the box essentially COFDM? or is it wifi?

marrel are bringing out a range of diversity 1.394Ghz and 2.8Ghz systems...

check this out!

read... 2frame delay or 33ms ! I think there is going to be a big range of COFDM transmitters coming out soon.

I doubt these are cheap!

OK, I've got about $2K-$3K to spend on the video transmitter & receiver, but with all the stuff you guys are talking about I don't know what to buy. I've seen the Modulus 3000 in action, and wasn't too impressed with the results (even though it may be standard out there.) Any suggestions?

I've had a boxx unit to play with and is an incredible piece of kit compared to my non-diversity modulus set up. I set up a static camera and wandered off with the receiver, and was really impressed when if was still up and running 2 blocks away until I realized I was watching a freeze frame and the live version didn't kick in until I got back outside the house. Nevertheless, the picture quality when connected is great and from a clients point of view the delay is probably not a big deal if you delay the audio.

Been advised by a new Canatrans owner to wait for the new Modulus 4000. Totally different technology from the 3000.

Anyone have the DL on the newer specs?

Will

The problem with that Will is the customer service, ok the LACK of customer service. I really don't care if it's the best trans out there if I can't get the damn thing fixed in a reasonable time and don't have to deal with the headaches of dealing with spinelli

Joseph,

As the device is not mine , I haven`t got a chance to take a good look at it - you know how it is on a set, no time for fouling around. I`m not quite sure if the antenas are detachable, if they are I think the connector should be R-SMA, and in that case you should be able to use any WiFi (TITAN is 2.4GHz device) antena you choose (omni, sector, directional).

There is not much told about antenas on the website of the producent. TAKE A LOOK

I wouldn`t worry to much because it is working very nice with the original ones.

Dave ,

as far as modulus 3000F or V you need to know that they are discontinuos

I have been calling the entire country to find one , but no luck

also if you add all the cables that you are going to need it goes over your budget

it will be complite at least 3700$

Cantrans is a great system but just transmitter itself costs 3900$

and the modulus 4000 it would not be release until the new year

Is the 4000 really going to happen? I'd heard that the 3000 was discontinued and that there was no plan for a 4000. Whatever. If the 4000 is still a box of snarled cables that leaks RF everywhere and can cook an egg, I'm out. Besides, I can't imagine a new version would come out without a huge price increase. All of these things bring me back to the Canatrans. No mess wiring. Firmware driven so upgradable as things change. Auto-off to save power, variable wattage, and best of all variable gain so you don't have to screw up the tap's iris on your monitor for video-village.

I'm on the cusp of ordering one, so unless someone can provide me with concrete info on the 4000 that is meaningful..... On this note, Eric has a good point about customer service.

Q. Could I, on your HG version have one omni and one unidirectional antenna to make it runner proof.

A. Yes this will work, but it is better to select and have both antennas suited that match the situation.

Q. Both of your receivers are diversity based. On long shots would it be a problem cabling up one antenna to the end of the shot and one to the beginning?

A. Yes ,we have designed the-boxx to do this. It works really well by putting one antenna inside a house and the other outside. This gets past any metal shielding in the walls.

There is a down side though. Each foot of cable you use, adds to a lost of single. If you use a high gain antenna and less then 50 feet of cable, this should work ok. The shorter the cable the better. Also you need to use cable that?s costs about $2.00/foot. (LMR400). You can also use antenna splitters to use more then 2 antennas. Give me a call about this.

I get most of this type of thing from http://www.hyperlinktech.com
