Brad Smith Posted May 25, 2015 Report Share Posted May 25, 2015 Can anyone give me tips on the usefulness of KS 6's vs KS 8's? I'm about to order a KS 6x6, but some guys I work with are saying I should be going for the 8x8...... The tradeoff is only about 900grams or 1.16lbs to step up to the 8x8. It just worries me that at almost 5kg (11 lbs) is alot of wieght to put in one position on the sled, be it top or bottom. Thoughts? will the 6x6 be enough to stabilise a fully kitted Alexa on a long lens? or will I be constantly thinking damn I wish I went for the 8x8? Cheers, Brad. I have found them to do the job quite well with a fully built Alexa. Any more weight to place on either end of the sled would be too much weight for me personally. Brad Smith Posted May 27, 2015 Author Report Share Posted May 27, 2015 I need to post a correction to my earlier post ......... the weight difference between a KS 8x8 and a KS 6x6 is 1.6kg not .9kg......... I was reading from the Kenyon website, and there was a minor conversion typo in the kg weights listed, the lbs where always correct. The typo has been corrected, the only people who would have been confused would have been those of us looking at the metric figures, clearly a minority here! Generally like the 6x6 better because the 4x4 tends to 'freak out' easier whenever you get over the max pan / tilt speed and then it is a bit of a bear to get the rig back under control. Just curious:How do you guys balance your sleds with the heavy gyro on the bottom ? Do you just keep the sled bottom heavy and roll with it because you don't want to pan / tilt too much anyway or do you still try to balance the sled with a reasonable drop time ?
