DP7-PRO Monitor Issues

Hey I had the same issue buying a DP7 HB. All High Bright have some level of light leak I was told since the LEDs are much brighter than what the matrix can really hold. This is much more than usual.

Here are 4 different monitors with light leaks.

If you just bought it, I would recommend you return it and get another one (I ended up testing the monitor in the store to make sure)

I have the same issue. Complained with the manufacturer. They said 'all of our monitors have that'.

Hmmm... - ok. But no other monitor I have ever seen has that.

Then again. It does not seem to bother me too much. And I really like SmallHD DP Pro HD. Mainly use it as a clamshell for my AC.

So I called small HD about the issue with the light leaks and yes. It is a manufacturer issue.

Asked about what can I do from here. Told that I can return or just deal with the problem.

On that note. I purchased the monitor through Abelcine. Who has been a very helpful and supportive in the matter with exchanging them. Five star customer support. They've let me exchange the monitor twice now.

Small HD is the issue here and generally speaking about their customer support. It's terrible. On an overall scale. At least with my encounters. In this situation and dealing with them in the past.

Jens,

I'm sorry; I know you love Transvideo. And I get it. Their customer service is almost awesome. I say almost cause they ignore people like me. They don't make a monitor I have any interest in. I find it funny that they even recently pointed out that their 6" way out sells their 8" because their 8" can be a sail. Well, the 6" is simply too small. Time to give up the 1980s 4:3 and and make a 7" 16:9 monitor for Steadicam. That is the ideal form factor for MANY of us and why so many keep using Samll HD and Cinetronic. And before you tell me about their rainbow, that is not good enough. Frankly, I have found their viewing angle lacking on their top of the line models.... And, no, I have nothing against the company and nor do I have a vested financial interest in their compatiation. I'm just sick of hearing people call them the holly grail. I'd go back to my TB-6 first.

Alec, I absolutely agree, I would be fantastic if Transvideo adds a new high brightness (1500 nits) 7" 16/9 monitor with built-in gyro level and framelines.

But for me, personally, the HD6 x-sbl is not to small, the image is actually much bigger than on the TB-6 and by far the best LCD STEADICAM monitor at the moment.
And btw I'm tired of half-ass engineered products and bad customer service from companies like Cinetronic and SmallHD...

Jens,

Unless you're looking at a 4:3 Image, how is the image on a HD6 bigger than a TB-6 which is a 6" 16:9 screen? It is a 6" 4:3 screen, yes?

By all means, please encourage Transvideo to make a 7" high end monitor with all the bells and whistles!

Anyway, we should get back on topic which is Small HD.

Hi Alec,

yes, the screen on the HD6 is actually 6.1" 4/3 and the top 16/9 portion is used for the image and the bottom (roughly 1") for waveform and level display overlay. Just from memory, I sold my TB-6 last year, The image area is definitely bigger.

Agreed, back to the fact that the "backlight leds" on the DP7HB are not being diffused properly or evenly due to improper design and manufacturing...:-)

The design and manufacture of this are fine. The problem comes in assembly. The screens with light at the bottom are due to the stack separating, and the screens with bright spots on the left side are due to pressure on the lcd panel.
