Recommended Posts

Hi guys just bought my steadicam solo and im having some issue balancing Im using a canon 6D with 24-105f4 L but here's the thing sometimes I can balance it properly but usually when I leave it and try to switch from a slider and then go back to the steadicam solo it's always unbalanced

I also trie 2 1/2 second drop time and 3 secs drop time Im using 2 weights (1 each side)
any suggestions or maybe a link to a video how to balance steadicam solo cant seem to find anything on youtube thanks

PS : Im a newbie in film making

Everything Lou;

First you need to use your real name here.

Second, by balance do you mean when you put the camera back on the steadicam it tips forward or back some?

Then you've just put it back on the steadicam plate slightly differently.

You're still "balanced" just dial the plate for and aft a bit.

If you put the same weight (camera setup) back onto the top after coming off a slider or tripod then you have the same weight on top and the drop time has to be the same.

The term "balanced" is a nonspecific term and we/you have to define it better.

Good luck.

Opps sorry for that one how can I change my name here?

BTW my concern here is whenever I remove my camera (im using a manfrotto rc323 QR) I have to re balance the steadicam and in events this might cause me some time and I might miss important moments on an event

If you remove the camera you need to place it back at the exact position it was before. You might want to use a white grease pen to mark that position. You will still have some minimal rebalancing to do which should not take much time once you get the hang of it.

Also, be aware that zooming on a DSLR lens (and some cinema lens) will throw your balance off since the lens becomes longer/shorter.

To change your name you need to reach out to one of the moderators of the forum (Janice is one of them).
