Broken skull Ranch strike

Wow, that was a ride.

We're all on the same side, yet hostilities springs out of thin air due to some communications issues. When I feel offended by something on the internet I always try to take it with a grain of salt and see if I didn't misinterpreted what the other party was saying. (And please, don't misinterpret my message of love and peace)

I should add that much of the reason we put things in catagories is for archival purposes. Almost everything is seen because of the "view new post" function when it is new, but years from now, people can look around the archives based on topics. That is what separates this Forum from Facebook, etc.

Thank you all for contributing.

Alec has raised this point many times...one cannot stress the importance of posting here vs Facebook enough. Sometimes it is maybe more convenient or quicker to just post up on fb but there it is temporary...here it is archived and can always be accessed.

Now that I got that off my chest, I am going to log onto fb and troll the steadicam group

It's in Los Angeles... It's sorta hard for me to believe. Agua dulce movie ranch. I guess everyone has a price. We will find out who it is and Let you all know. I understand everyone has bills and it's tough sometimes but we are trying to make the work climate better for everyone. It's too bad these people don't understand that.

It's interesting how we all rally to support our brothers, sisters and the Union (and we should) but for the most part our Union sells us down the river with few exceptions.

When do they take a stand for us? I mean a real stand? Do they really support 12 on / 12 off? Do they really support better wages or did the Tier program just give them an opportunity to get a slice of the low hanging fruit? Instead of creating more opportunity for our members to get health care they let it become more difficult to obtain and maintain for the rank and file member. The feedback I've seen online recently makes it sound like the service and services on the plan are not exactly working well for those members.

I'm off topic and perhaps off base. Someone please tell me what the union has done and done well for us lately...

Now that is off my chest, have a great day!

Robert,

Of course there are complaints to be made and I won't disagree with you about the long hours situation. But since you asked, the Union has done a lot of good things too. I have been on sets where the reps show up and demand Production to stop at a certain hour (they've told the Gaffer to shut off the lights at a certain time). I was on a film last year that apparently never received their last check from their investor. As a result, our last weeks labor was not paid and the Union was able to pull it from the Bond company. Sadly, they still own me a large chunk of equipment rental (as well as a few other vendors). The IA has seized the hard drives and refuse to allow any editing of this film until we are paid…… I don't want to go into more detail than this because it is still pending.

Its a complicated relationship we have with our Local but I KNOW we are far better off with them than without.

According to Josh, and I have yet to confirm with our Union, I called them to ask but to date no one has called me back, but apparently the Union is very excited to have won this contract with 51 Minds and now the show Broken Skull Ranch is Union. (According to the Email we all got)

The unfortunate part is, the Union waved all the benefits for the crew. I don't get that at all, isn't that one of the main reasons why we want it to be union. Also, to add insult to injury, not only did these crew people that walked off the show and picketed lose that last week of work, they don't get their benefits and the director and producers said that all of them should lose their number. In other words, your not getting a call to do next season ! I hope I am wrong and this is not the case . . . . . but very sad and so not what was expected.

Josh, can you chime in and confirm this ?
