Premium Members Ryan Spearman Posted September 4, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 4, 2015 I just got the new(ish) TV Logic 5.5" on board monitor. Seems pretty great after my first day of use. Anyone know where to get the latest firmware? Or what it is even. The website says it's upgradable via USB, but I can't find a link to the firmware download anywhere. I can't even sign up to the on site forum thing because it gives me some garbled message about "up characters" or something, slightly random. Atobit
Hi Ryan Sign up on their website is useless, you never get any info even when new firmware is released. Luckily I found what seems to be the latest firmware here: http://www.hofmann.se/shop/nyheter/200-2015-08-11-10-33-46 This is from a shop I believe, as reseller he might get the info from Tvlogic. Anyway, the latest firmware adds pre-loaded LUT, which helps to keep this device up to date. It has Log C, C log, slog 1, slog2, slog3 and others. Unfortunately you can use a custom LUT, or I didn't found how to do. Hope it helps. Claude
Premium Members Ryan Spearman Posted September 30, 2015 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted September 30, 2015 Wow, great info. How did you find this? I thought I was good at internet trawling, but obviously now
Atobit
On google I've searched for: VFM-058W + firmware. In between the page referring the user manual I found that post...and yours. I just registered to this forum to give you the info. With what camera do you use this monitor?
Premium Members Ryan Spearman Posted October 1, 2015 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted October 1, 2015 What is the language on that link? Which is the correct file? I'm assuming it's on the dropbox link- there are 2 files, a .rbf and a .hex. Which is the upgrade file?
Atobit
I think this is Swedish language. Yes it is on Dropbox. Put the two files (.rbf and .hex) on a formatted usb memory stick then follow process described in the user manual. Because there is no way to check the process of the firmware upgrade (you only have a black screen), It said that's better to use a memory stick that has led so you can check that the machine is reading the memory stick. I'm traveling so I can't tell you the exact process but here what I remember: First disconnect all HDMI and SDI cables. You should go to the "System" page, then select "firmware upgrade" after having put the memory stick into the USB port. If it recognizes the memory stick and the two files it should ask you if you want to process with the upgrade. When the upgrade start, at first you have the black screen with a white frame and "NO VIDEO" on the bottom left, then few minutes later a full black screen, then few minutes later the screen with the white frame with "NO VIDEO". I think at that moment you can remove the memory stick and restart the monitor. Personally I didn't has a stick with led, so I just wait 20mins after the upgrade started to make sure the process is completed before removing the memory stick. Good luck! Premium Members Ryan Spearman Posted October 7, 2015 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted October 7, 2015 Has anyone managed to download this firmware? I filled out the RMA form about 4 days ago but haven't heard a thing. Would be great if they just posted the firmware online somewhere. Starting to feel like customer support isn't tvlogics strong suit...
Matze Boerner
Hey Ryan, yes their website is a joke, nothing is working - and you never get an answer - even if they answer :) They usually just ignore or don't answer my questions and forward me to the local distributor. They have a main distributor for every region. You are better off asking them: http://tvlogic.tv/AboutTVLogic/AT_CI_CR.asp?LeftCode=CI_CR My impression is, that they are not used or set up to talk to private owners. Most of their business used to be just with big broadcast companies - but now a lot of folks buy the VFM series. Someone at Videor (German distributor) explained that firmware thing to me. They want to be sure, that you load they right firmware - otherwise you could damage the monitor. Therefore you have to provide your serial number. I wish they would at least keep an up to date revision list of firmwares online.
Matze Boerner
There is a new debugged firmware out now. There were some issues with the previous one, I was told. If you have FPGA V003 and Gen V0012 Luts and Arri Metadata are in the menu, but don't work. You need FPGA V005 and Gen V0012 Now the Luts are working. Premium Members Ryan Spearman Posted November 4, 2015 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted November 4, 2015 I just installed the new debugged firmware, looks like the LUTS are working but not the metadata yet. I'm still getting the "Turn Metadata Off" warning. I've got to say, I haven't yet tried any of this attached to a camera yet, it may behave different when plugged in. I'll try tomorrow at work and get back to you. Also, when I scrolled the zoom function it zoomed in, but not back out again. Even after doing a system default the zoom wouldn't reset itself. I had to reinstall the firmware to reset the zoom. MAJOR BUG. I'll be rolling back if this is actually true, I use the zoom all the time and if it's broken I can't really use the monitor. Feels to me TVLogic is severly lacking in the software testing department. Ryan
Premium Members Ryan Spearman Posted November 4, 2015 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted November 4, 2015 I take it all back, just tested the camera with an XT. Everything works great, just as it is supposed to. Very good upgrade, makes the monitor infinitely more useable. Very good value too
Matze Boerner
Hey, here is a trick I would like to share. It works with the newest TVLogic monitors with USB-Stick firmware update function (VFM-058W, LVM-095W).In case of a failed previous firmware update resulting in a black screen or if you wan't to downgrade to a previous firmware version, you have to use the following method:This method is similar to the one in the manual with the difference that you plug in the USB-Stick before you turn on the monitor and you don't need to access the menu. The monitor will automatically update the firmware, if there is a USB-stick with firmware files plugged in on start up. Put only the correct firmware on the USB-stick - nothing else!! 1) put the 2 firmware files (*.hex + *.rbf) on a USB-Stick (one with an LED light is handy - the monitor is black during the update - so you will just see the LED light on the USB stick flashing. The stick needs to be FAT32 formatted with Master Boot Record2) Turn off the monitor and disconnect all video cables.3) Connect a stable power source to the monitor.4) Plug the prepared USB-Stick into the monitor (monitor must be off)5) Turn the Monitor on. The update starts automatically. The screen will be black. Wait for approximately 10 minutes. If you have a USB stick with LED you should see the LED flashing from time to time. 6) After 10 minutes check if the monitor is on and shows 'no input'.The monitor can show the 'no input' earlier, but might not be finished with both files. So just wait for 10 minutes - drink a coffee. If this is the case check in the menu if the firmware version numbers are updated. 7)Turn the monitor off8) Disconnect the USB-Stick9) Turn the monitor on and connect a video source. Check if everything is working. You are done! if something goes wrong just start from the beginning. In some cases you need to install the firmware 2 times. If the monitor acts weird or crashes, just update again with the same procedure.
Premium Members Ryan Spearman Posted November 25, 2015 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted November 25, 2015 Has anyone used the Arri meta data on anything other than an Alexa? I've got it working fine on an Alexa but not the mini or amira. It's a pretty handy function if you spend most of the day zoomed in
Matze Boerner
here is a download link for the latest firmware from a german reseller. The link is at the bottom of the page. Click on 'Download Software'.The download is provided by the german TVLogic distributor 'Videor' - it's genuine. https://www.teltec.de/Kamerazubehoer/Sony-PXW-FS7/TVLogic-VFM-058W-Full-HD-Viewfinder-5-6-14-2-cm.html
