Decimator MD-HX now has flip and flop

This week a number of Decimator products got firmware upgrades and image flip/flop was one of the features added (something I'd been pushing them to do for a long time). The unit I think best suited for Steadicam is the MD-HX, MSRP $295, due to the following features:

 

SDI to HDMI cross conversion (either direction)

Configurable as a 1x4 distribution amp

23.98psf conversion to other flavors of HD

Image flip and flop (perfect for "poor man's low mode")

 

All functions can be controlled by front panel screen interface (no dip switches/rotary knobs), or via the UCP software downloadable at the Decimator site for both Mac and PC.

 

The name "Decimator" has become generic enough that there is some confusion. The company is Decimator Design (formerly Redbyte Design) and they still sell the classic Decimator 2 downconverter which will output analog composite video (CVBS). The MD-HX can downconvert to SD, but only output as SD-SDI.

Need some help!

 

I just bought the MD-HX and need to use it on a job this weekend. I have a PRO-1 rig and I need to power the unit from the top stage. I have a 1S.303 plug already, and the DC cable that came with the unit. I'm going to solder a cable together in hope of powering the unit since I don't have enough time to get one made before the job.

 

Please help me make sure I'm doing this right. I drew a little map of how I'm planning on doing this.

The bottom right shows the power output on my top stage. I used a multimeter to measure it and I wrote down the result (Top pin: 16.4V, bottom left: 0/32V, bottom right: Ground).

And just FYI the white drawn wire will go to the black/white-dashed wire and black will go to black on the DC plug.

It looks like you've gotten the pinout right. I would suggest that instead splicing the two cables together, you should just remove the cable from the Lemo and solder the DC Barrel cable directly in. It would be cleaner. Just have some heat shrink tube handy if the cable clamp is too big to tighten around the cable.
