Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted October 20, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 20, 2015 Hi, I recently did an Arri 416 shoot with my Cine Live rig. I tried powering the camera from the sled with Media Blackout's Alexa power cable. It powered the camera but was showing a ground warning and we immediately pulled the plug to avoid bad things to happen and went on with the on board battery. The camera owner said that it has to do with the video tap (SD) creating a ground loop. Is that normal? Is there a way to power this camera through the sled or do I have to keep on with the on board battery? Thanks and fly safe. V.
Premium Members Ken Nguyen Posted October 20, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 20, 2015 Try this to check if there is a ground loop: Using a voltmeter on AC-volts to measure the “ground loop” or differential voltages between equipment. Simply disconnect the SDI video cable at one end only. Put one probe on the shield of the SDI video cable. Put the other probe on the SDI connector outer shield on the other equipment. Any voltage that exceeds 0.1 Volt can be a problem for your equipment. I use this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=843846&gclid=CMHE-peG0sgCFUGSfgodJKEKJA&is=REG&m=Y&A=details&Q= Cheers, Ken Nguyen. Premium Members Tuomas Viitakoski Posted November 5, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 5, 2015 Had the same thing happening a while ago.Camera was powered from onboard battery and steadicam but ground warning was lit when I plugged in the PIX-240 recorder (powered from RS output) and connected the BNC.After thorough testings I couldn't find any faults but it was clear that IVS was the one causing the ground warning. Camera was used in production for 6 weeks and everything worked just fine. Here's the gear that was connected to the camera:ARRIFLEX 416 with OBB-2 onboard batteriesBlackmagic Mini Converter ANALOG-SDI (powered from IVS)Sound Devices PIX-240 recorder (powered from IVS)Paralinx Crossbow SDI-HDMI converter with Paralinx ARROW Plus video transmitter (powered from RS)ARRI SMC-1 single motor controller (powered from RS)
Premium Members Tuomas Viitakoski Posted November 9, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 9, 2015 Although I wasn't able to fry any of the devices I'm going to get one of the electrical isolator that Ken posted! Good to have in the kit and will be a good investment only if always plugged in.
