So after 2 days filming with this monitor I can say that it's very bright and performs well in daylight, although it's a bit too reflective so I guess adding a matte glass protector will be a nice addition to it.

Image quality is amazing, and the HDMI- SDI cross converter is a nice bonus.

I just bought one of these as well and have been using it for conventional studio mode operating for about two weeks. I have found the image quality amazing and it is indeed very bright and visible. Super fun on a Geared head not having to keep your eye to an eyepiece. I have yet to use a sunshade on it outside, but I have adjusted the angle of it a few times to catch less reflections in the glass. I do wish it had proper power connectors instead of having to use a Canon/Sony camcorder battery adapter (to a P-Tap) but these adapters are cheap compared to Lemo and Hirose cables. At this point, I have no intention of using it for Steadicam mostly because I already have two monitors dedicated for the sled.

Yes, The DP-7 Is much brighter. And it has better power options than this monitor. Also the 702 is too light for me to use as a Steadicam monitor. I bought a 702 to use as an on-board camera monitor, for which it is well suited, although I wish the power input options were more "professional". I am very happy with the picture quality.

Both have 4frames delay !!!

Can you be more specific?

Im using it on my sled with Alexa Mini and there is NO delay.

3 issues here for steadicam use:

1: No power connectors - you can solve this with dummy battery and any connector on it ( I did dummy to 8 pin Lemo)

2: Too light - at the moment is fine with Alexa mini I only use one instead two batteries at the back and one at the front (Betz)

3: The display itself is not sealed ( In my opinion ) so water would be an issue - some tiny line of silicon at the edge ???

I just picked my new 702 up to use as an onboard monitor but I don't get to use it until my show starts next week. The power "connectors" are a joke, and the new Vitec (Teradek, SmallHD, etc) office in Burbank didn't have any power cables for it when I picked up my monitor, but they did send me to Alan Rencher at Media Blackout (mediablackout.net) who builds the power cables for SmallHD. Alan was able to build them for me the same day, and just in time for me to ship my gear off to location. He is a solid resource for these cables and others, and he totally saved me on this last minute job. I'm looking forward to trying out the 702 in the field and am hopeful that my experience will match other peoples positive experiences with it.

One nice feature I forgot to mention is the ability to apply a 3D LUT on the monitor. Often now I find the camera is set to output Log-C or S-Log so the DIT can then apply a look. This monitor will take that in and apply the look of your choosing. Helpful for on-camea monitoring.

Does anyone have any thoughts on a handheld directors bracket for the Smallhd 702? I have two of the Wooden Camera brackets and they weren't sturdy enough with my 702's on the last show. Ideally, the bracket would have handles and a way to mount an Anton Bauer battery and a Teradek Sidekick. If anyone has any thoughts or a way they have made the 702/Anton Bauer/Sidekick combination work in a way that is sturdy enough for daily use on set I would appreciate it. Thank you.

How were they not sturdy enough? They do get loose now and then, just put some blue loctite and you're good to go for a while.

alternatively, you could power the receiver from the on monitor sony battery with the mod from Media Blackout https://mediablackout.net/products/lemo-upgrade-for-smallhd-700-series-monitors and then any U shaped handles would work (Like those maybe?? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/855880-REG/Blackmagic_Design_CINECAMHANDLE_Cinema_Camera_Handles.html ) ...

Victor,

Thanks for the reply. The Wooden Camera brackets were pretty jacked up by the end of the shoot and I'd like to find another system with fewer pivot points. I'm well aware of Alan's work but am set up with lightweight 65wh batteries and don't want to shift to Sony batteries if possible. Thanks again, and I look forward to hearing from anyone who might have worked with another system for the 702.

Here is a start. Some specifically machined parts that really increase how robust the 702/Wooden camera set-up is.

That looks like a great solution! Thanks for sharing!
