Premium Members brett.mayfield Posted January 26, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 26, 2016 hey yall i have been loving and using heden motors for quite some time, as well as Preston DMs, but recently was thrown a Betz motor and liked that the cable could run flush with the motor itself, just keeping it more streamline and less poking out at anything. i didnt have a chance to put it through the paces, so i dont have a good sense of its capabilities when it comes to bigger lenses, tight barrels, cold days, etc. Does anyone have any notes or experience with these? I am in the market for 3-4 motors and would consider throwing one in the mix, but frankly Id be very happy to go with Heden again. Ive gone through the forum and theres little to nothing on these. Any experience using these motors with a CMotion, Chrosziel, or Preston that would entice or dissuade me from using? Also, any idea of price? And are the only serviced in Germany? Also, how does the M21VE-L perform? A thread was started but with no responses. If I get some more Hedens, itll probably be 1xM26 & 2xM21, but would entertain the L for an Iris motor or slick barrels. Is it just a smaller M21VE? have a good one! brett. M26VE is identical to DM-2 in both speed and torque. M21VE-L has less torque but is faster than M26VE / DM-2 DM1X is the fastest and has the most torque of any motor I have owned or used. I don't think any motor comes close.
Premium Members Nate Weaver Posted January 26, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 26, 2016 DM1X is the fastest and has the most torque of any motor I have owned or used. I don't think any motor comes close. I consider Arri CLM-3 about the same level, and that's what they're marketed as without naming DM1X specifically. Very fast, very strong, biggest by far in the Arri motor lineup.
Premium Members brett.mayfield Posted January 26, 2016 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 26, 2016 I reached out to Magnus at Heden and he told me the following about the M21VE-L : "The M21VE-L is an ultra compact, strong and superfast lens motor. It has double the torque of the M21VE. It has actually replaced the M21VE."

Premium Members David Steel Posted January 27, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 27, 2016 I have a M21VE-L and it is awesome! It is faster than the preston motors i have worked with and plenty of tourqe for all situations. I recently was using the motor with arri masterprimes and a big alura 45-250mm and it was incredibly fast going from infinty to mins. Also only weighs 170gms and is pretty much the same size in thickness to the M21VE but about 1cm longer. I would recommend this motor! Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted January 28, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 28, 2016 The main thing that turns me off about the m21 is that the distance from rod mount to gear is so much shorter than the m26. Seems like I would need to use a dog bone when I wouldn't with the m26 which kind of defeats the purpose of it.
Timm Stemann
The Betz motor is as strong and fast as the Heden M26VE but more quiet. A little nice feature is as well that the gear is screwed to the motor and can not slip out. And the motor is nicely quiet, maybe even one of the most silent motors I have worked with before? During the World Cup in Brazil with 10 Fujinon HK series lenses, the motor was running perfectly for me without problems pulling focus, iris and zoom on stiff lenses. Chrosziel sells the motor for 2.180 EUR which would mean about 2.400 USD: http://shop.chrosziel.de/shop/eng/lens-control-systems/cable-und-accessories/447/btm-motor-mit-4x-zahnraedernBut we do sell the Heden as well :) I think they are only serviced in Germany by Betz Tools, the manufacturer.
