Jacob Waage
Hi, I've noticed the 4 pin hirose has a tally pin (pin 3 or 4). What kind of signal should trig it? A short? SmallHD is not very clear about this in the documentation..
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted March 9, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 9, 2016 Been wondering the same thing for a while, here is the answer form SmallHD's tech support. "The tally line has to be pulled to ground in order for the light to be activated. Many cameras will have a tally wire that can be attached to something like our 4 pin breakout cable. " Allan Rencher from Media Blackout is working on a tally system for the CineLive that will work with the DP7
Premium Members Colin Donahue Posted March 10, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 10, 2016 I had the tally wired on my DP 7. I can't remember how I did it, but It has to go through the composite video connection on the side of the monitor. This is difficult if you have a yolk because there is usually very little clearance between the monitor and the yolk. You need a right angle Hirose, and I don't think they make one. The tally lights are located on the back of the monitor so you can't even see them when they are lit. On top of that, the DP7 2.0.4 software upgrade disables the composite connection . I called Small HD about this and they said they were going to fix it. That was at least a year ago. I can't remember if it disables the tally, but since I couldn't see it anyway, I ended up getting the Zalex Tally from Peter Abraham. I am happy with the Zalex. Premium Members Steve Minnick Posted March 10, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 10, 2016 optical Tally is the way to go - Peter Abraham makes 'em. I have one and it works great! I have an engineering friend that could make you one as well. Good luck!
Premium Members Rob Vuona SOC Posted March 11, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 11, 2016 The internal Tally works on the Small HD DP7 pro HB but the older software only allows it to blink when activated and it was wired opposite of our typical sensors. But Small HD has corrected this with the new software update. I have not yet done it, but I believe John Perry has his working correctly
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted March 11, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 11, 2016 Yes, the last firmware does have the option for high or low tally. However the firmware is marked beta because the HDMI inputs are having connection issues, which does not affect me at all when it is on my sled.
