Premium Members Vahe Abrahamyan Posted April 11, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 Hi guys, So has anyone tried and compared these vests : Walter Klassen, ActionCam Back Mounted 100lb vest, Exovest backmounted. The Exovest is a front and back mounted vest I guess, but in this case I wanted to know how is the experience with it when backmounted. Thanks! Premium Members gregor yalmanian Posted April 14, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 14, 2016 Hi Vahe,I own a Exovest and tried it as backmounted. but for me it was the same as front mount , did not feel any change.
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted April 14, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 14, 2016 Like Gregor says, you'll notice very little difference between front and rear mounting with the Exovest, so I'd opt for front to keep a thinner profile. Arms seem to work better when front mounted too.
Premium Members Vahe Abrahamyan Posted April 16, 2016 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted April 16, 2016 Thanks for the input guys ! So the Exovest is bulkier when back mounted and doesn't offer anything substantial compared to when front mounted. Very interesting.
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted April 17, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 17, 2016 Yes, the arm coming around from the back makes you wider. The weight's always out front, so front or back mounting makes little difference to the feel. The only compelling reason to rear mount is when you use the 3rd arm section to increase your boom range by 50%.
Bo Hallen
I am very curious about any of your experiences with backmounted vests like Walter Klassen? Actioncam? Didn't Sachtler (or I guess Arri) have one too?? Pros vs cons?? I suppose it's obvious you would have less room to maneuver tight spaces, but as far as comfort is it any different?? Is it all about operator preference?
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted November 15, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 15, 2016 It's a combination of operator preference, voodoo, and unreliable sensory perception. Whatever works for you is best! Chris
