I have to teach, so help me please

Hi all!

Long time listener, first time caller! Over the last ten years, I have operated several body mounted (Pilot, Flyer, and GC V25, V8) rigs and handheld (GC 2000+4000) rigs. I feel like I have balancing the sled down with both static and dynamic. From all that I have read and the countless videos I have watched from many of the masters, I feel that my technique is good. But, I haven't had any formal training. Now my employer purchased a Pilot. Since I am the one in the building with experience, I get to train others.

I am excited about this, but want to make sure I don't have any bad habits to pass along. While I would love to go to a workshop, I can't afford it personally and don't know if or when I could get them to send me.

So, here's a short video of me operating the Pilot. I tried to get a good sample of forward tracking, Don Juan, and some of the shots I do during our live productions.

Thanks a million for all the help you already gave and any that comes with this!!!

Mark;

Since you haven't taken a workshop and know how they work you'll have to rely on instincts on how to teach.

1) make an outline so you stay on track on what you want to cover and don't loose track of both time and topics you want to cover.

2) practice describing things because saying it to someone else is different when you have to say it.

3) allow time to go back over things you see need clarified (when you screw up saying it the first time).

4) showing a lot of videos is not the best way to go so keep them little or none at all.

Good luck.

Thanks Janice! Right now I'm working with people on just getting it on and fit right and getting the feel of it. Most if not all are putting too much effort into the sled hand, so I'm doing my best to break that with them and just work on straight line and horizon.

In looking at the video, does anything in my operating stand out as a glaring mistake?

Again, thanks!
