kes Posted February 13, 2004 Report Share Posted February 13, 2004 In the near future I was thinking of buying another LCD monitor for my master but not sure what to choose. I know some well respected operators like Eastwood and Muhlstock are using the Transvideo but did anyone compare the Transvideo to the newer brand Tamuz monitors ? Does anyone use the Tamuz monitor ? It seems very profesionals and shares nearly the same features as the Cinemonitor. It is also about the same price - 3000 USD. Need help to decide. The housing was a bit crude, the screens not particulary bright. So I went for Teletest, an afforable monitor at around $1500 at that time, might be a bit more now. It has the same contrast of 250:1 as the Cinemonitor but if you say it is not very bright I will take your words. Did you have the chance to compare between your Teletest and the Cinemonitor ? Your Teletest cost half the price of the Transvideo but I do not want to compromise as far as money concern even if the Cinemonitor is only a bit better than the Teletest. I also like the 1:2.35 Anamoraphic option which I can find in the Transvideo and the Tamuz. I really was wondering if someone does own the Tamuz LCD on this forum and can give some opinions how it reacts in varied situations. About the difference between Transvideo and Teletest: there is some difference, but very little in mine opinion and some other operators At the last workshop I did in Sweden, september last year, I was able to compare the output and resolution from the Teletest, the Panasonic, the Ikegami and the Cinemonitor from Transvideo and mine was one of the brightest. The Transvideo has some extra features, like greenscreen and a frame-memory and a voltage display. Also, it handles over-exposure a bit better, koops the detail due to improved electronics (limiter?) One Danish operator walked in one day and saw the Teletest, he had never heart of it before. He was instantly sold and mentioned without asking that it was brighter than his Transvideo. But for the weight, the light-output and power consumption I think the Teletest is a very good choice. Since you actually compered most of the LCD I was considering and came out to a conclusion that the Teletest is one of the brightest I think I would go for that. The brightness is reputed to be better and the anti reflective coating is supposed to be excellent. I think you can do a google search for them. I've been using the tamuz (golden hawk) for about a year now. For studiowork and overcast days outside it`s a really great monitor! But you better look for shade when the sun comes out cuz you won't see a lot on your screen! Now, I've just received my hummingbird last week and I've been using it in the alps on a glacier - only outside and in bright sunlight over snow and ice for the last couple of days...and it rocks!!!!! It's the best I've seen so far! I never even used a sunshade! We were 3 Steadicam on the show and the other two ops just ordered theirs this morning! Take my word and your search is over! And no matter what it looks like - it's the best lcd-screen so far! What's also nice: it's about the same weight as an crt, so you don't have to ad extra weight. Brian D. Goff Posted February 16, 2004 Report Share Posted February 16, 2004 I don't know if this fits for all transvideo LCD's, but I did notis that my Rainbow II shows the FULL image. I know that the teletest LCD's crops the image at the right and bottom (1-2% I think). Any way, I had Teletest once, and first thought my frameliner had gone mad, untill I read the small print on the package of the LCD. So, if you wish to have full control over the full image, you better ask befor you buy! I was told, that in order to not crop the image at any side of the LCD, you must have some image-processor builtin the LCD (Transvideo aparantly payed atention to do this).
