The Betz Wave system review??

Mariano, is it holding level? Does it drift or need recallibrating after some time?

Oh, that's not my video, don't have the wave yet. I was curious about the helix but having heard that it's not very reliable and given that the wave comes from Christian Betz I'll rather go this route, even though it doesn't have a "high to low mode" range.

Thanks for your answer Jarrett! That's what I thought what it is build for.

As it comes from Christian Betz I'd buy blind - I'm sure it's gonna be really good!

I'm a customer for many years and I'm very happy! Great gear, great service, great people there!

Best regards,

Clemens

Jarrett I simply don't boot up the Omega to operate with no rotation. As a result there is a slight amount of vibration simply due to the adapters plates in between the topstage and the camera. With the Omega you can dial up or down the rotation speed and sensitivity. You can also program moves like a 360 degree move or control the rotation with an iphone or a hand wheel. It's a cool function but I haven't had a need to use that yet.

regarding to this video from Chris Betz you need to balance the camera on the Wave by placing accesoirs to get the COG inside the roll axis.

im wondering if somebody already has some experiences how crucial this is. I am worried ending up placing FF Receiver and Bolt on ULCS arms way above the camera when using a low camera which weight would be under the roll axis...

or is it very forgiving when the camera is not balanced? especialy when having the COG lower than the roll axis i would imagine that it should work pretty well, as far as you dont want to use the wave out of the 0point for asthetic reasons.

I have had mine for a couple of months and can attest of this thing being a fantastic tool in your kit.

I have used it in difficult situations and could clearly see that without the Wave , I would have asked for a couple more takes. It does not make you a better operator but does let you concentrate on the actual frame while the horizon is being taken cared of for specific shots.

I will now use it for anything on a car rig , in stairs , turning sharp corners....

Since it's heavy, I really just use it on specific shots, it also makes you operate in a different way , for me , it's mostly the pressure applied to the post that changes dramatically .

To put it simply, the shots made with the Wave are shots you could probably do without but would need a couple more takes to achieve . I now carry mine everywhere and put it to use whenever I feel it would help me.

Call me "week" operator ,but mine is always on the sled .....

3 weeks with only one Pag L96E battery....

Good balance of the camera and turning "ON" and "OFF" the device only when necessary is the key .

THANK YOU Chris Betz!

P.S.: If you think having this device will make you better operator ,you are wrong...but it will help you keep your status as one....;-)

I've been using the Wave for a few weeks and have found a few situations where it really shines. Had to do a low mode rig on a rover to do some car to car stuff at moderate to faster speeds. The position of the hard mount for my arm on the rover was not ideal for my body position, so I was stretched to get into a reasonable operating position. The Wave took over horizon and allowed me concentrate on framing. With all the bouncing from the road and the cramped operating position, this would have been a tough sequence to get this smooth without it. On another day, I had to shoot a running gunfight over rough ground, and the Wave allowed to me to be more aggressive with my positioning than without it. It let me focus a bit more brain power on framing and navigating because I was't also worrying about horizon. It's a great tool to have.
