JOGARA
Hi all. So currently I have a Teredek Clip TX. Just about to invest into a cheap wireless follow focus so need to finish up my wireless setup. I can either buy the Clip RX, which I have not used before, seen anyone else use it or any review... Or go for a cheap TX/RX "HDMI wireless transmitter". Like the ones you see on AliExpress for $200. Such as this one from LINK-MI https://www.aliexpress.com/item/LINK-MI-LM-WHD05-50m-5GHz-WHDI-802-11n-Wireless-HDMI-Wireless-Video-Transmitter-and-Receiver/32374563588.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.2.f3m8Dg&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_5_10056_10065_10068_10055_10054_10069_10059_10073_10017_10071_10070_10060_10061_10052_10062_10053_10050_10051,searchweb201603_7&btsid=149d5468-2962-4572-96a8-9af7ce974a37 Obviously my goal here is to be able to pull focus from a monitor. I mainly use my Ronin (I am not sorry :p ) which is why I need the wireless setup. Are there any more budget friendly setups? Anyone here tried the Clip RX? Thanks Jack,
Premium Members Mike Gailing Posted October 6, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 6, 2016 Don't use Clip for pulling focus! Repeat: don't use Clip for pulling focus! While the Clip is fantastic for confidence monitoring to an iPad (just 4 frames of latency), its not meant for use with what you plan to do. This is why we have the Teradek Bolt! I know it is not Bolt quality but that is when paired with iPads and other devices. The Clip decoder might actually be decent enough for it...? I have connected the Clip to my PC and displayed it on full screen and it is possible to do it though it is a tad soft is all.
Premium Members Mike Gailing Posted October 6, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 6, 2016 The Clip decoder will allow you to pull focus the way you want, at the same latency the Clip streams to an iPad. Bolt has less than a milisecond of delay (unnoticeable) and the image is visually lossless. Granted, its different technology (OFDM, not Wifi) and it is more expensive. If you go down the Clip route, I highly recommend using an access point when doing this (i.e. dont just allow the Clip ENC to connect to the Clip DEC directly). This will ensure a much stronger wireless connection, will give you more range, and overall, a better experience. ANY router will work, just make sure its 5GHz and not 2.4GHz. Oh and make sure you get the Clip Decoder with external antennas - it'll give you better signal reception. I love Clip and I think a lot of people in the industry would fall in love with it too if they just gave it a chance. The image quality is great and the delay is so so small. Its a really great confidence monitoring tool. If you have any more questions, just shoot me an email: mike@teradek.com

Hmmm I already use my Ubnt AP to get better signal, without it, get loads of crap on the screen even within a normal room with only few people in it.. The Bolt is pretty good (would be awesome if the last few times we had it on set it didn't stop working half way through :p). PS, this is for my personal kit, if it was proper set we always rent decent setup.
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted October 9, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 9, 2016 Cheapest is consumer HDMI wireless transmitter on eBay like the Nyrius Pro. Otherwise go with a used Bolt gen 1. It will be better than the clip (clip is not meant for focus and will only bring pain and frustrations)
JOGARA
Tested out the LINK-MI system. Managed to get the same thing but re-branded on Amazon (was £300 but Warehouse discount + student discount meant it was £170). Pretty good. About 1/10 second delay. Range is pretty decent too when positioned well. It is not ultra low delay like the Bolt but it is 1/10 of the price which works for me :p
