Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted January 2, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 2, 2006 (edited) Howdi, anyone into mountain climbing? I've been dabling in hiking and climbed some of the easier peaks here in So Cal. (Gorgonio/Whitney) over the past few years. Some friends and I are thinking of doing Mt Whitney again this June. Anyone interested? If I remember correctly we'd have to put our group into a lotterey starting Feb 1st...have to check with the forrest service. I had to back out of the trip this past year -- got a sinus infection and couldn't shake it in time (fake snow on bad xmas movie may have had something to do with it?). I'm not really into the one day up/down thing (too much work, though I admire those that can do it). So figure a day to hike to our basecamp -- another day to summit/explore/relax/puke from altitude sickness -- and make our way down on day 3. Nothing's set in stone, just a possible non-work related fun time in the near future. Ron B Edited January 13, 2006 by RonBaldwin

jasondittmer
I am in, as long as the expedition can agree that in an emergency I am the last to be eaten. :) Jason D P.S. Do you think that Tiffen would sponsor us. The first all steadicam op expedition to summit Whitney Via the dreaded East Face!!!!
Premium Members BJMcDonnell SOC Posted January 5, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 5, 2006 YO! I am in as long as I can bring my snowboard. I just got back from Mammoth and the snow was killer!! I will bring my rambo blade. It has a compass, waterproof matches, and explosive tip arrows like in Rambo Part II. Premium Members Matt Petrosky Posted January 6, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 6, 2006 This is turning out to be an impressive expedition crew, I mean A-Team stuff. Shotz could almost pass for Mr. T if he goes back to the mohawk. BJ, if you promise to bring the explosive tip arrows you can count me in. -Matt P.S. Jason do you still summit Denali for a living? danavision@earthlink.net
Ron: Count me in ( based on work schedule) Hey, what about another off-road adventure? I got a new truck, and need to break it in. And No, Ron, it's not a new Hummer Alpha! Dan Ayers
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted January 11, 2006 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 11, 2006 Dan, any time is good for me...I found a new trail in Bouquet Canyon (Santa Clarita area) that is fun to play on. I was up at Big Bear this past Sunday and there was some snow, and lots of mud to play in. We definately need to break...I mean break in your truck! John Hankammer just got a new KTM (still no sign of his sled) so we need to hook up again. as far as the Whitney climb...I'll do my best with the lottery situation, starts Feb 1 me thinks. I'll keep y'all posted. Ron B

Anthony Hardwick
In. Schedule permitting, of course. Used to do some technical rock climbing back in high school and university years. Once climbed the Grand Teton (Exum route), when I was 15. 14,600' or so IIRC. It was pretty cool.
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted February 21, 2006 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted February 21, 2006 been so busy lately that I haven't had the chance to check in here. Still waiting to see if we get the permit. If we don't get the permit, we can take an alternate trail (maybe better/less crowded, but might add a day or two to the trip). Just have to wait and see. Worst case...we'll find another mountain, or maybe watch a movie with mountains in it while drinking alot of brew. Ron B
