I am working until mid June in New Mexico so you guys have a blast. Hopefully Geoff can pull off the part. He is my understudy for the play so good luck dude. Just remember to shave. Dan Ayers just contacted me and will fill a spot if somebody drops out. Just make sure you have the right gear. It will be cold and there will be snow. Like I said before, it's not a technical climb, but there are steep sections and the altitude makes the easiest stuff hard. Get on-line and research what you'll need and check out Whitney info. There are alot of books/websites out there. E-mail me if you have any questions -- freerangecamera@yahoo.com I'll try to post a picture or two of what we can expect. Ron B here's another shot at around 14,000 ft me on the summit -- 14500ft one mor picture...speaks for itself I forgot to mention that the above pictures were from June '04, as you can see there was a good deal of snow, and this year has been a wet one. I just got word that the second feature I was going to do here in New Mexico got the plug pulled and is no longer gonna happen. I will be heading back to Los Angeles on May 2nd. If any one of you guys back out on the climb I am ready to jump into the space if it is not filled already. I am also looking for work to fill in the six weeks I had booked in New Mexico so if anyone has a job they can't do send it my way!! Ron, keep me updated homie. Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted May 4, 2006 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 4, 2006 My show's finally over and I'm catching up on much needed sleep and trying to get my lazy ass (shaped like a fisher dolly seat) back into shape before the climb. I've been monitoring the whitney climbing forums and there seems to still be tons of snow above 9500'. There have been some recent summits (as well as avalanches!!), but I'm not sure anyone has done so on the main trail yet. You'll want to make sure you are prepared for sleeping in the snow as well as the obvious necessities... crampons, warm clothes, ice ax, warm clothes, snow shoes, good boots, and did I mention warm clothes? I don't think we'll need avalanche probes or transceivers but walkies are a good idea. Last time up we wasted alot of time/energy because we thought we lost a mamber of our party and they were happily relaxing nowhere near where they should've been. I have 2 of the Garmin Rhino's, they are gps as well as a walkie. Might be nice to grab a few of those? I'll post a picture from June two years ago vrs one from April 29th (last Sun) looking at the area we'll be going up. The third picture is a cool look at the main trail (in summer). It would be nice to make it to Trail Camp (the lower "TC" on the picture) to camp. The next "S" represents the switchbacks which probably will be under snow, and the upper "TC" is Trail Crest at 13,600'. The summit is "W". The first two pictures are taken from the summit looking toward the Trail Camp/switchback area. The first picture from my post on Ap 16 of the climber walking accross the 45 deg snowy slope was taken on the upper third of the switchbacks, just before Trail Crest. e-mail me if you have any questions (I'm no pro but I will try to answer them). enjoy -- RB Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tom Gleason and I will probably be doing a nice little warm up this coming Sunday on Mt Baden-Powell. Just to get the blood pumping and to hit a little higher altitude than 400'. BJ dropped out because I refused to share a tent with him and I know how gassy he gets at altitude. My friend also had to drop out because a work deadline.
