Split shaft collar for center post.

Hi all

Thinking about modding this Flyer LE I have.

I am happy using the Flyer (I only use it for personal projects, I am not really a Steadicam Op, pretty much learning still) but the fine tuning is a bit difficult due to the lack of movement the monitor and battery have.

I was wondering if a split shaft collar would work well to camp to the bottom post (the internal one) to replace the current mount and stage down there with a custom one I am machining.

Going off these photos, it looks to work fine.

Any advice for doing this?

Thanks

Jack,

Here's a mod I did a couple years back http://imgur.com/a/H65Za

Yes you can use a shaft collar

That is exactly what I was going to do with 15mm rods xD

Did you find it made the rig better than before? I am pretty new to Steadicam (as in actually learning the thing properly).

The limited stock bottom stage is just not working for me atm so was looking into doing this (pretty much exact) mod.

Thanks

Jack,

It's a more flexible system with rods and dbox. However you definitely lose out on max camera load since you can no longer easily drop your sled's center of balance (hinged arm lets you put batteries near vertical and super low) and because you will have more weight on the bottom with the rod and plate setup you'll use.

That said, 15mm rods just look more legit. Period.
