Anyone here remember the HBS site?

Hi Folks,

Originally from New Jersey, I lived for 20 years in Southeast Asia before returning to the States in 2016. While in Thailand working as a freelance DP, bit by bit and several times over, I built a Steadicam by employing machinists in Bangkok and Cambodia. I also got a lot of advice from some awe inspiring people on a now defunct site that was called Home Built Stabilizers. I recognize some names here, some might remember some of the amazing projects people from all over the world documented there.

I’m taking a break from production doing unrelated work now. At 58 I’m not about to embark on a career as a Steadicam op. But recently during a trip to Bangkok I took the rig out of storage where it's been for about 7 years, and shipped it back here to NJ, where I’m trying to remember where I left off tinkering with it.

I’m adding a few bits and pieces to get it up to date and running. Then I’ll either attempt to sell it or possibly play around with it on weekends.

Thanks for letting me join!

Martin

Yes, the homebuilt stabilizers site is long gone now but I still use my equipment which I build by the help of this side.

Recently we build up a facebook group and uploaded some of the old pictures. Charles, Doug and Cosmin are also there:

Hi Andreas, I remember you and your rig well! The facebook page looks great, thanks for the link. For home builders, I don't think there will ever be anything quite like the old HBS site.
