Right ... I need to get a few thing straight.

I run the Steadiforum - not for profit, if anything it costs me money to run, but that doesn't bother me.

The forum has grown massively over the past 12 months, and I'm happy that it attracts new members, no matter what their background, or their level of "professionalism". Everyone is totally welcome there, from someone who doesn't even know what a "Steadicam" is to Mr Garrett Brown ... everyone is treated equally.

The forum started out life very small and well unknown as the Basson Steady Forum as this was my first rig, and no one had a forum, so I started one. As it went on, I really wanted to expand the forum and have new members and came up with the idea of the Steadiforum - I even went to the length of emailing Tim (who runs this forum) to ask if it was ok to start that forum up, and after never receiving a reply, I thought it was fine to proceed and start up a totally universal forum - it didn't or doesn't matter what rig you own, Basson, Glidecam, Steadicam, MK-V, everyone there has one common interest - Steadicam (the generic term). The Steadiforum is NOT in competition with the Steadicam Forum, it is merely an alternative.

I don't agree with threads that turn into bitch fests and back biting. There are ways and means of sorting out disputes/arguments/annoyances - and I don't think a public humiliation is not the way.

The forum continues to grow and recently I have noticed members pointing people in the direction of the Steadiforum, and it always seems to be people who have started a thread regarding a copy system. Everyone is welcome there, so feel free to call over and sign up, you're more than welcome.

Thanks,

Jason

We used to have a seperate forum on the SOA site and we decided to combined the two so we could bring EVERYONE in the industry together. It's too bad we have to branch off to another forum because of a few individuals who get a little too annoyed and other individuals who's skin is a little too thin. It goes both ways. I will stay here and encourage others to do the same. It's nothing personal, I just don't think we need another forum. Keep in mind this forum has over 1000 members, and maybe 5 or 6 have caused some problems.

That's funny, because I've read some of your posts on the steadiforum publicly bashing THIS forum and some of the members here.

Here's what you posted:

"Some people such as Rob Van Gelder have too large an ego to let that stop him, hope someone brings him down to size eventually, I had to tone my post down on the Steadicam Forum as it was .... but he's definately one of the ringleaders over there, no wonder people don't visit there now....

Aren't you glad you're on the Steadiforum

That certainly seems like bitching and back biting to me.....correct me if I'm wrong. And now it just appears that you want to use this site to advertise your own site.

I believe that most of the "bitch fests and back biting" started because someone asked a question and didn't want to hear a truthful answer about their sub-standard equipment. Members here aren't going to just tell someone what they want to hear, such as..."yes, a basson is just as good as a Pro". Also, a certain amount of etiquette is expected here, and many new posters are rude and obnoxious right out of the gate, and then they get upset when someone tells them off. I understand that that type of behavior is tolerated all over the internet (and ppossibly on your forum), but thankfully it isn't tolerated here.

I'm glad you've been sucessful with your forum, but please be aware that people pay attention to what is being said on other forums as well as this one. It seems that your attitude and demeanor is a bit different here than it is in other places.

Gosh Bratt, I didn't even know....

oh well, whatever, it's clear that when you stick your head out of the field, you are more likely to get mowed off... :D

I could find only one topic that can refer to Jason and me, and though I teased a bit, I was not really degrading there, specially in relation to his own reactions to the Provid he started to use.

But let's stop here, it's of no use, i will continue to offer my -often strong, pronounced - opinions, and also my my stories, help, knowledge, tricks and tips that i want to share with everybody.

Fair point, and I take it on the chin, I said how I felt, and as I've said in previous threads and posts, I have the utmost respect for everyone here, including Rob, yeah it gets my goat a little when members seem to be shoved out of the way just because they ask a simple question.

I don't want to piss people off here, nor make enemies, I'm the sort of person who hates confrontation, and will rarely speak what's truly on my mind. I really don't want the Steadiforum to be taken as competition for the Steadicam Forum as it isn't - it's an alternative. People I speak to seem to agree that the Steadicam Forum has a lot of bitching and back biting, that's all I'll say.

Rob - if I have offended you with any of my comments then I sincerely apologise, I think we are both at the opposite ends of the scale, and I'm down the lowest end. Like I said I don't want to make enemies for myself, but I realise I won't always get on with people. I hope that the two forums can coexist as they do now and we can get back to more important business .... operating :)

Thanks,

Jason

ps ... it's not advertising I'm going for, the number of quotes towards the forum in the recent week has jumped massively, and I wanted to make people aware HERE what the forum was all about.

Huh?? Who is we? Tim Tyler started this forum and that's where the operators started to post.

This site ran into a problem when it started having advertising and sponsorship, that's when the signal to noise ratio when thru the roof. No sadly most of the people that used to post don't, and I both understand and agree with their reason's for it.

The "we" is the SOA. "WE" the SOA had its own forum on "OUR" (the SOA) own site. Are you seriously trying to come at me over my post here? I was simply stating that I don't think there is any need for 2 steadicam forums. I am not trying to take credit for anything to do with this forum, give me a break Eric.

Eric,

Do the people who don't post here still read the forum or was it completely boycotted ?

It's a shame that this had to happen but would be good to know the full story if anybodys willing to share some information.

Personaly I think Rob and jason were seperated at birth (theres a canny likeness don't you think ?) :D
