Upgrade help and help to understand some stuff

Hi, so right now I am "flying" with the following:
-Blackmagic Production Camera 4K

-Atomos Samurai Blade w/ 2 Sony NP-F550 Battery

-Sigma 18-35 f1.8 Canon Lens

-Glidecam HD4000 (used)

-Glidecam Smooth Shooter arm and vest (used)

Recently, someone posted in my local area a used Steadicam Pilot $1200CAD and other one Steadicam Scout SD $2000CAD. I eventually want to fly with a Red Scarlet-W with one of the choices but I also want to use it with the camera and lens that I have right now. But what I don't understand is the weight limit for the Arm. When the specification says 10lbs limit, does it mean camera weight or do I measure the weight of the camera and the sled also and be 10lbs in total?

So for now with the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K, lens and monitor and also for the future Red Scarlet-W which one is better suited for operating or flying, Steadicam Pilot or Steadicam Scout? Or do you have recommendations?

Sorry for the question as it might seem really newbie-ish. I live in Toronto and am waiting for workshop to attend, so that is one thing for me to look forward to

Thank you for helping, commenting, recommending!

Smaller rigs such as the pilot, scout, flyer and even the zephyr state the camera payload capacity. That means the pilot is rated for up to a 10lb camera. (The arm max is about 15) the big rigs tell you the arm max. They changed this on the new Aero small rigs by naming them after their arm max weight (A-15, A-30) hope this helps!

Oh so Francisco, which one would you recommend, Pilot or Scout? I also dont mind saving up more for the Aero A-15 if you think its better. I want it to last. Thanks for the help

If youre willing to save up, then go with the Aero. The Scout was replaced by the Aero 15. If you can hold out, go Aero 30, especially for the Scarlet with some of the goodies on there. It will definitely last you a little longer. The other one to consider is the Zephyr. Definitely get yourself into those vests and I am glad that you want to attend a workshop, that will definitely help you. Different workshops focus on different rigs as well. The 5 day Tiffen workshop will be more big-rig oriented, but all the skills are the same. I do think that you should move into a rig that is a bit more future proof and will allow those heavier payloads, like the Aero. You dont want to botch a shot or whole shoot because you opted for cheaper/sooner.

Things have a way of working where you put it out in the universe and what you are seeking starts to show up. Basically, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3c_pJ_CLJQ

but definitely do your online and tactile homework.

brett.
