Had to work with this system for a few weeks a while back. For the money, its the best you can get. Both the hand unit and grips do their job just fine. Especially if precision or focus speed isnt as important ... Unfortunately I've had loads of issues during the last few days of our shoot with the connection between the motors and the hand unit. Not sure what happend, but ive had to reboot the system on multiple occasions mid shoot. It got so bad that we decided to rent a different wireless focus system...

I had problems with my unit also. Tested at home and it was absolutely fine. Went on a couple of shoot and the unit wouldn't communicate on both separate shoots, intermittently. Had to get a Preston unit sent over by courier to get us out of a jam; very embarrassing and bad for my image.

The nano that I use is very good lag wise, good enough for focus. I should point out that I personally use an Axis1 for focus. I use a nano with a nano motor (powered by dtap 14v) for iris, and the same handset on a different channel with a nucleus M motor for zoom (or focus if required). On the last job, my B puller used my nano system for focus on a movi pro, using Cooke S4s, nucleus M motor for focus, nano motor for iris. Worked perfectly. We even put a register pin in the handwheel, and made up pre marked focus discs which made life a lot easier. (But you do need to power the nano motor from dtap).

I had to use Nucleos -M and there were several connection problems between the focus motor and the hand unit. It was very bad, because the focus assistant was forced to calibrate the system several times, which is embarrassing because it forced some stops.

Within this range of equipment the DJI follow focus system works much better.

Otherwise, if possible, bartech or similar.

Just worked a job where B cam Steadi was using a Nucleus on an FX9. I brought on my Carat for A cam Steadi which worked great. After day 1, production quickly asked me to bring a second Carat as the B cam's Nucleus was acting up. Apparently the Nucleus was lagging, cutting in and out, and just generally not working without constant power cycles, forcing B cam to stop shooting. I would suggest looking for a different unit unless having budget Master Grips makes it worth it for you.
