Balance issue

I have been experiencing this balance issue for some time now -

I just sent my gimbal to be tuned but am still having the same problem. I cant find any play or slipping anywhere else on the rig (top stage, monitor, bats, etc.)

Wondering If anyone has seen this before on an older Tiffen rig?

Thanks!

Hi Sawyer,

I have the same thing happening on a Clipper2.

It is a bit of a bother but i didn't really put time to find the cause before your post as I got used to it (and it is not my rig, so I could not really take the risk to modify something).

Now I have looked in details to what could cause it and i find some things :

- I am pretty sure the cable is moving inside the post which could influence a little

- I found that the monitor mount tube (single tube going down) was not tight enough, and the monitor was moving paste a certain level. I tighted that and it was better but still lost balance after a drop time test either way

- I have found that on the top stage, the part where the fore/aft screw goes on to move the stage as a play. I could feel it as the thumb screw had a mecanical play, and when pushing on the plate receiver it moves by something like a millimeter or so.

I think the only solution to this last problem would be to replace the adjustment part where the screw goes, but don't know if this can be found.

Best

Wiring in the Central Post (Tube) is not the issue.

Your problem is this:  Main Gimbal [Bearing] is NOT Centered.  This is either set at the Factory, or you will need to figure it out yourself, however, the only want to resolve this is to have someone with the technical expertise, as well as the required tools to ALIGN the [Bearing] with the Bearing Housing and the Central Post...  Basically, the Gimbal is NOT Symmetrical on the Post.

Call me at 1-781-585-7900 if you need further explanation.   Thanks!

Thanks Felix!

As Lisa mentioned, it could be a combination of a few things; case in point.  That being said.  Rule #1 if there is 'play' in any of the components, that is 100% not-good and should be addressed asap.

As an Operator, always verify that each component is 'Play-Free', by applying torsion to each joint, and hand testing.

"visually" test, looking for movement or 'play'

"listen' for 'play' - "clicking sounds, etc" are an indication of movement, while torsion is applied

"feel" for 'play' - vibrations can also indicate 'play'

At the end of the day all working parts should be in 'fixed' positions.

....AND always verify that the Gimbal of the Sled is Concentric and calibrated, which is best tested with 'Slow' Drop Time (i.e 5 to 7+ seconds - depending how sensitive you want the Vertical Axis to be during this test)   I do NOT recommend Neutral Balance for Gimbal testing.

Fly Safe!
