Premium Members Stephen Perera Posted December 29, 2019 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 29, 2019 I haven't got one of those purpose made docking and balancing brackets at the moment......they are out of stock on the Proaim I have.....I was wondering....and this is a stupid question I guess.....whether mounting the handle of the gimble (as one does on the Arm) on the end of a C stand is OK to do the balancing part of it all.....I can't think why it would not be as you never hold the handle of the gimble perpendicular to the post......would like confirmation of my assumption.....sorry for the stupidity of this question hahaha
Premium Members Corey Hess Posted December 29, 2019 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 29, 2019 The only problems I can foresee would be the baby pin not fitting in the gimbal handle and the sled not clearing the stand itself. You could offset the baby pin from the stand either with an offset arm or maybe even a double header, if it's a very light build. I used to balance on a c-stand before I got an American stand. Nothing wrong with it but be sure to weigh the stand down with a sandbag and balance the Steadicam itself over the long leg, not in between legs to reduce the possibility of tipping. Moderators Louis Puli SOC Posted December 29, 2019 Moderators Report Share Posted December 29, 2019 Hi Stephen You could do a static balance with a C stand but not dynamic balance as you will not have enough space between the stand and the rig .If you have a hard mount you could use that by mounting that to something (tripod or 2'' scaff )and then you will have the room to dynamic balance it . Good luck Louis
