Amen to that brother! Tiffen really does not has a totally modular system at all, Panavision, Arri, Moviecam, GPI Pro and everyone else in the biz does. A MK-V can go from Flyer weights to Film Master series weight ranges in a a quick no tools conversion, Tiffen makes you buy a whole new rig!!!

Rich,

I spent a bit of time talking to Jim about his new BUZ box. Definitely a cool new toy that will be out soon. It's about time there is a reasonably priced zoom control out there that will be as reliable as the more expensive units. He has just a few last bits to finalize but it does exist and is looking great.

The physical size takes up less space as the BFD receiver and when talking to Jim about a mount for the two he said "well NASA developed it a while ago and it's know as Velcro"

Power connection is the same as a BFD and can be daisy chained off of the BFD

Jim said he will ship the units with a standard VariZoom control with the Tajimi connector on it (for easy replacement if needed). But he will be more than happy to put a Hirose connector on it for those people like myself with a Tiffen J-7 Zoom, or any other type of connector that other zoom controls use (Except the 1/8? LANC control).

Price wise he was estimating somewhere in the 600-700 range.

The prototype that he had was very well built, rugged, and VERY smooth at extremely slow speeds (with a Tach motor of course).

Thanks, Chris! Just a few clarifications:

The BUZ electronics module by itself will be in the $500-$600 range. The Varizoom unit with 8-pin Tajimi is $349 (the list price), $75 extra if you want the standard cable replaced with ultra-flexible cable for steadicam use.

The BUZ connector is either a 8-pin Tajimi (Fuji/Canon), 6-pin Hirose (J-7) or 12-pin Hirose (Fuji/Nikon). The package price (BUZ + Varizoom+power cable+motor cable) will be under $1000.
