Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted May 24, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2006 Hi Eric, I'm not trying to be a pain in the butt here, but at the moment I am not selling anything. I'm running a poll to cut down slogans and see if there is a market for a few T-shirts. As I said I am willing and will post in the for sale section if I decide to produce them and fully appreciate how this forum is funded. I just don't appreciate being treated like a naughty schoolboy. Jamie you are trying to sell something plain and simple. For sale post go in the for sale section and to do that you have to be a paying member. This discussion is over. Premium Members Jamie Hammond Posted May 24, 2006 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2006 Unfortunatly my last posting has been locked, but I would still like peoples opinions on the slogans please. Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted May 24, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2006 He should absolutely be allowed to post this.. 1. it's steadicam related 2. Sounds like he's in the developement phase, he's not selling (yet) 3 if he starts selling these t-shirts then he should put it in the for sale section and pay. if not then his posts can be removed by the moderators. This would be completely and utterly unfair otherwise. A certain manufacturer was able to constantly talk about his product on this forum the past couple of years to the point where people were complaining yet he was allowed this and Jamie isn't? What's wrong with Jamie askng for ideas for a t-shirt as long as he becomes a subscriber and puts it in the for sale section?
Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted May 24, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2006 First off folks this is Off-topic so even if it wasn't advertising it would be in the wrong section. Secondly he posted prices and said that he would work out deals, that is advertising. Third what has happened in the past is being rectified. fourth he's not a paying member. If you want to sell something it's advertising. Ad's go in the for sale section after you have become a paying member. This is not the first time we have been enforcing this rule and if we let this thread continue would it be fair to the others we have spoken to? The days of this forum being a "Used car lot" are over.
Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted May 24, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2006 I guess I didn't see that he had a price listed! Doh. I still think he should be allowed to ask people (in off topic) their opinion on what they would like to see on a Steadicam T-shirt. I don't think there is any harm in that. It's not like he's a major Steadicam manufacturer.. I'd like to see someone make some cool Steadicam T-shirts. I know we could all use more t-shirts haha. To be fair though, the following thread should go into the "For Sale" forum ya? Just using this one item as an example.. there are more from different people.. http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/index...?showtopic=1836 Not trying to cause trouble here.. just trying to make the world a better place. :) Edit addition: I should say that I am glad that "advertising" problem is being enforced... Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted May 24, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2006 I find the whole name brand on a t-shirt thing funny. 10 or 15 years ago when steadicam was still pretty rare, I could see having a steadi-shirt (especially as a newbie/wannabe). Ted had some great shirts with the no-dolly on the sleeve. But now, as the years have mellowed me (ie made me crusty) and steadicams have become a standard tool on almost every set, it's practically like wearing a shirt that says "O'Connor 2575" (or my contractor wearing a shirt that says "Bobcat!" or "Hammer" -- or in my case, "will work for first born." My neighbor doesn't wear a t-shirt that says "torque wrench" because he's a mechanic. I guess he does have a "Snap-On" t-shirt that he washes his cars with. It doesn't mean I don't love my job, I do...but come-on guys. I just realized I have no point. Do we have a Blog section yet? Ron "won't wear Nike shirts either" B
Premium Members Jamie Hammond Posted May 24, 2006 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2006 Basically this has become an arguement over $30. I can see this escalating out of control. I respect all the ops that frequent this site and have been hanging around here for a few years now to know that things do get out of control. It was about time for me to pay my subs so I have, I would appreciate being able to re-open a poll on the designs, re-worded so opinions can be gathered. Then if I decide to produce some I can post the "advert" in the For Sale section. Thanks J
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted May 24, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2006 Obviously it's a matter of taste--I happen to be with you Ron, all of my logo-d t-shirts (wrap gifts etc) are in a drawer for "in-house use only". I haven't done a run of my own t-shirts for years now, still have a bunch to unload somewhere (I would make a joke about eBay, but since they seem to pop up there on their own every now and then, not so funny). Even then, they were 95% about the logo plus tiny, nearly obligatory type, in true Churchill fashion. I'm sort of fascinated with why people will buy an full-price t-shirt or sweatshirt with massive "Abercrombie and Fitch" written across it--shouldn't they be GIVING those away as promos or something??! But that all said, for the newbies and wanna-be's, I could see how having a Steadicam shirt would be desirable.--Teddy gave me a plain one with the original logo on it when I was just a lil' guy and I pretty much wore the thing out. Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted May 24, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2006 I think it would be great to come up with some funny t-shirts.. I saw Dan Kneece wear a "The Dolly that Bleeds" t-shirt sometime last year on a job. (I'm not kidding) Sure it was old and had giant holes in it and one of the sleeves was torn off but he still wore it! haha. (just kidding about it being old. It actually looked only slightly used.) I would love to have one of those!!! : Call me a newbie/wannabe  :P Also, lets not forget to have fun on this forum too and not take things so seriously. I think it's getting a little too serious on here. (not referring to Charles or Ron you guys are funny!)

Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted May 25, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 25, 2006  It's funny, you know. It's a good story. You're a funny guy. It's just, you know. You're just funny. You know, the way you tell the story. ;)
Premium Members Bryan Fowler Posted May 25, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 25, 2006 Good luck with the Tshirts. I don't need any, but I know they will be wanted by some. Numbers 8 and 9 are the only ones that start to appeal to me. I would be more interested in an icon, phrase or pattern that only a select group of people will understand. Like "3 sec Droptime" or the outline of a gimbal. *shrugs* At any rate, good luck! Also, lets not forget to have fun on this forum too, and not take things so seriously.I think it's getting a little too serious on here. I agree. I've been reading these forums since before the format change, and it seems it's becoming a little ridgid. I do like the added topics, and subforums. Thanks Erwin. And really...there must be a better way to correct someone, or tell them they have "broken the forum law" than to demean them, tell them what the "local" guys think of them, and/or call them childish. Personally, I don't need to be reminded of how tactless, and unkind we humans can be. I get enough of that at work. =) Fight in the alley, not in the courtyard. Premium Members Kareem La Vaullee Posted May 25, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 25, 2006 I saw Dan Kneece wear a "The Dolly that Bleeds" t-shirt sometime last year on a job. (I'm not kidding) That T-shirt was made during the shooting and given to the crew of Snake Eyes by Larry McConkey, don't know the exact story behind it but it's not hard to figure it out (nice to know I am not the only one who finished a shot with blood dripping from the face !) I worked with a grip on a movie here, he came on set with that very same T-shirt for my total pleasure, he got the T-shirt from his sister who worked on Snake Eyes And really...there must be a better way to correct someone, or tell them they have "broken the forum law" than to demean them, tell them what the "local" guys think of them, and/or call them childish. Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted May 25, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted May 25, 2006 Folks, I have merged these two threads, placing the combined one in "Off Topic" and have unlocked it. There seems little point in having the two different ones for keeps sake. Jamie, thanks for becoming a sustaining member. And, yes, please remember to post the items for sale (if and when the time comes) in the classified section. On a personal note, the only slogan that has any appeal to me is No. 9, but I wouldn't wear any of them to set because they all seem a little self-importent and they all seem to whine about our jobs. That is just my opinion and we should all be allowed to have an opinion, which is precisely why I unlocked this topic. In general, like many things in life, less is more. I'd stick to a subtle logo or something so you could use it as a conversation starter at industry parties, etc. (I have few Steadicam shirts, but I'd never wear them to set). Premium Members Jamie Hammond Posted May 25, 2006 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 25, 2006 Alec, thanks for unlocking the topic and your opinions. Kareem, "I pity the fool who slanders my Master" Everyone else, The t-shirts are a bit of fun, love em or hate'm. BTW, I kinda feel a little like I have been sent to the sin bin, do I have to stay in the "off topic" or can I play with the other staedicam issues. I promise to behave...... :P Logos 3,8, and 9 will probably have a small run each. Watch the "for sale" zone, I sure they be selling like hot cakes...........
