If you find it interesting, I'll be happy to hear your comments about the steadicam work in them (and the names of the unknown operators!) and maybe see some of your own favorites. I put direct links to online sources, so you can watch 2 of the videos. I also wanted to put images from all video clips, but the forum only allows 3 images on the post, so I'll have to link the others. IMO, the other one isn't that great. Long one'rs are always ambitious, but still require the same attention to composition, movement, motivation, and basic operating skills as any short shot. If those elements can't be met for some reason, and that reason can't be rectified, plan B should come into action. The operator moved between preset cardboard frames to make the shot, but every transition was important and with a purpose if i remember. One moment he put the rig in a 90 degree angle for some situations and later back again to normal. i don't know the name of the group or the video, but we were all amazed about it. If you wanna be my lover...something something.." Music Video was well done. Can't believe I forgot about this one. I love the steadicam work there. The Green Day one is good. IMO, the other one isn't that great. I agree that the work on both Unfinished Sympathy and Amor de mis Amores is not very precise. Still, the overall work is very nice and the resulting atmosphere of both clips is great. I always loved the way both clips are made - the shot that keeps going and going when you expect a cut. Both seem to have a difficult production - closing an entire street and putting all those extras (especially Unfinished Sympathy). Concerning Unfinished Sympathy - correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the singer is walking relatively fast. It seems to me like the Steadicam operator had a really tough job following her in that speed. Also, see this: Picking out a favourite is hard. When we first saw Unfinished Sympathy in the editing suite we were really unhappy because the things we knew were supposed to happen didnt happen. It was one steadycam shot and the cameraman got tired throughout the day and missed quite a few things. Does someone remember this? yes, I believe I know the clip you're referring to. It was directed by the amazing Michel Gondry and the song was by a French group. I can't remember the song's name. I'll try to do some more search on the web to find it (see this if you're not familiar with the director's work). Our own Dan Kneece shot that down an LA street. he started on a shotmaker and then stepped off to follow her al the way down. the director had actors on cue do all the silly stuff you see there. they played the music faster so they could fit it all in one take. if you look on the street side you ca see the conse they used to block off that side of the street and a cop can be seen there as well.. there was some other things that didnt make the video due to it not being safe or possible. IIRC they wanted Dan to go up a ramp at one point in the video but he flat out refused. he said it was holy heck but i think he did a great job and it was the start of things to come. If you work as a Steadicam Operator for a few years and work on many Music Videos you will do tenth of them like these two, nothing special in walking backward or sideway for hours keeping a perfect horizon and composition, it's your job. The Massive Attack video is different, first it's a true classic, then you have a strange crane move that ends with a step-off and right away you have that corner that surely had Dan to run, and it's very long, and it's a classic... I don't like the Spice Girls' video... The Music Video from the unbelievably talented Michel Gondry is something else, it was done by the very talented Patrick de Ranter, he is from Belgium but lives in Paris, you can see him in a mirror around the middle of the Video wearing a 3A in the Goofy style he is used to. That Music Video can be found in this must have DVD (If you want Afton I can send you the Video, I have that DVD) Hello Alf, you did that Jamiroquai Video ? Nice work !, I did a Jamiroquai Video too and it was all full length playbacks, no rehearsals, pure madness... It was really great and funny, JK is a nice guy with an incredible sense of the camera, field of the lens and motion. (and with all those nice chicks too...) But the director killed everything during the editing (cut, cut, cut cutcutcutcutcutcutcut...) One the best Music Video ever was done by Valentin Monge, I can't find it online for the moment, it's for an Artist named Sinclair Maybe I can ask to Valentin if he's got a copy. His work is truly amazing, you can't run faster than him and he shows that in the Video, in ultra-narrow corridors and down stairs.
